Patient Assistance Programs (PAP) help provide prescription medicine for many people who qualify. Patient Assistance Programs have been around for many years, but many people are unaware of them, so they go with out needed medications because they do not have the money to purchase them. The drugs received in these programs are the same medicines that are sold at your local pharmacy. Once you qualify and the paper work has been completed, many drug companies will mail you your medications.

There are many reasons why someone needs help paying for prescription medicines, including unemployment, not having drug insurance coverage and so on.

PAP are available for free or a small fee depending on the specific qualifications of the pharmaceutical company. Many drug companies have Patient Assistance Programs.

General qualifications

To qualify for most USA Patient Assistant Programs:

- You must be a resident of the USA

- Not have insurance coverage for outpatient perscription drugs

- Meet minimum income levels

General Income Guidelines

These income levels are not hard and fast rules and will vary between drug companies.

- Individuals incomes under $20,000 per year

- Couples incomes under $31,000 per year

How to search for Patient Assistant Programs

Search for Patient Assistance Programs by first knowing the maker of your medication. Then do a Google search by entering the drug company name, then patient assistance program.

For example: Type: Pfizer patient assistance programs

There are also companies that also will do the research for you for a fee for each medication, SelectCare Benefits Network (SCBN) is one of those companies. Truthfully, the process is easy and you can do it yourself.

Information to Provide

Many of the questions the drug companies will ask are the same questions your primary care physicians would ask. Remember, the perscription drug companies want to provide these medications to you, so the process is not that difficult. They will send you some papers including waivers for your medical information that your physicians will fill out. Fill out the papers and follow their directions. It may take several months to be approved so complete the paper work and return them right away.
