An Insight Into Private Hospital Care
Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on March 01st, 2011
Most people in the UK will be more familiar with the NHS hospital care rather than private hospital care, because of the fact that many people cannot afford private medical care. However, those that can afford private hospital care will have experienced the difference in the two services considering one is something they actually pay for and the other is open to the public without any charge to the patient. The only thing that would be charged is prescription medications if you are above a certain age, unless you hold a registered card that may exempt you from paying.
With NHS hospital care patients may need to wait in line to be treated by a doctor rather than having a doctor come straight to them. Emergency hospital treatments may take longer and patients are normally asked to wait for a number of hours before being seen to as there are many other patients waiting before them. As it happens private hospitals do not have this same problem and patients are given first priority. They are usually not required to wait in line before being seen to.
One thing about NHS medical care is that the patients are treated without having to worry about being presented a bill to pay for whatever treatment they have received. Those who have not experienced private medical treatment will not know that often the price of having a simple operation may be extremely expensive which could reach within the region of ?1000 or more. Depending on what kind of operation is needed patients could find themselves out of pocket, if they do not take the right insurance policy cover.
It is possible to approach a private hospital without having to pay so much money and receive the same treatment. This is possible through getting treatment cover that does not cost too much money and covers for certain treatments under a certain price tag. By taking out private medical insurance one can side step the problems of paying too much money. Like other insurance policies, you will need to pay a small premium on a regular basis as a way to guarantee cover for any medical treatments that may be needed in the future.
There various schemes that medical insurance companies offer. The following is a list of covers that one can consider before opting for a policy. Group schemes - this can be taken out if you are looking to take out a policy that will cover for more than one person and is much cheaper than taking out an individual scheme. Fully comprehensive - this will cover for out-patient consultations and in-patient costs; this is usually more expensive but worth it if you are suffering from specific illnesses. Accommodation banding - this is where you may have to pay extra for specific types of accommodation such as standard band B and D rooms in normal NHS hospitals to Band A luxury private hospital rooms.
Patients can also opt for limited benefits schemes whereby they are entitled to in-patient covers only or out-patient covers only. Local schemes will cover for costs of hospital treatment within a specific area which is chosen by the policy holder. Furthermore, only certain patient costs will be covered such as out-patient consultations.
