What is Ayurveda Dosha?

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on February 28th, 2011

Ayurveda is ancient Indian medicine practice. When you are learning about it, among the first terms you should be familiar about is Ayurveda Dosha. What is it and how is it important in the practice? To begin with, Ayurveda Dosha is a humor that primarily constructs the human body. Doshas are components that form the body’s tissues and cells, systems, and the entire body as a whole. Study of Ayurveda would require study and description of all the physical doshas and their properties.

Ayurveda Dosha helps the body keep its physical, mental, and spiritual harmony. Doshas are separate components that cluster to make one. All the doshas should remain ideally balanced to help develop immunity and keep restoration of systems that are subject to daily wear-and-tear. In general, there are three main Ayurveda Doshas, namely, Vota, Pitta, and Kapha. It is necessary to understand every dosha to be able to fully comprehend yurveda and practice it well.

Vata dosha is basically responsible in taking care of all important body movements. It includes the nervous system that takes control of the entire bodily systems. The Pitta dosha is governing all digestive equations and related functions like digestion, absorption, assimilation, and metabolism. Overall, this dosha significantly helps maintain ideal and normal body temperature. Lastly, Kapha dosha forms a structural unit of the body’s tissues and cells. Its components act as one to form the entire body. Kapha dosha is also held responsible for keeping and maintaining the body’s overall immunity.

A healthy body should have all the three doshas working in harmony. Any impediment, alteration, or disturbance to the balance of the doshas in relation with each other would lead to ailments and unlikely physical condition. Thus, it is important to keep all doshas under good control. They should also be maintained within ideal and recommended limits. In the practice of Ayurveda, every disease would be caused by imbalance of one, two, or all doshas. For example, the case of arthritis could be considered a Vata dosha vitiation. Rheumatoid arthritis would be resulting from the disturbance of Kapha and Vata doshas. Thus, the necessary and prescribed treatment should depend on the particular dosha involved.

An Ayurbeda doctor or practitioner is an expert in determining involvement of any of the Ayurveda Dosha in relation to the health problem. An Ayurvedic physician could accurately determine specific dosha involved and the corresponding treatment. In many cases, modern medical science and Ayurvedic practice are combined to bring about or offer a better and more perfect medical or healing alternative to people. It could be safe to assert that as time goes by, the practice of Ayurveda has also been evolving so that it could be more effective and easier to comprehend. The results are almost always satisfying.

Could you tell and differentiate each Ayurveda Dosha? You should be if you are serious in using the ancient medical practice in taking care of your own health. You do not need to be an expert in Ayurveda and scientific medicine to be able to do so. Just open your mind and your heart while you learn more about Ayurvedic practice. In no time, you would surely make yourself more able to utilize the basic and advanced knowledge about doshas and other concepts. It would be fun and helpful.

In traditional and widely used medicine (sometimes known as allopathic medicine) as practiced by many Western-educated doctors, the reliance on lab-created medications is widespread and accepted pretty much without reservation. There has been a movement, though, that is advocating for more homeopathic-oriented remedies and therapies. In this regard then, one must ask the question “Natural vs. prescription medicine: What risks are you taking?”

The question above tends to become an either/or proposition instead of what it really should be: which is what range of medicines, both natural and man-made, can be the most efficacious when it comes to healing the maladies afflicting the human condition? After all, there seems to be real and verifiable evidence that many substances found in nature have actual healing properties.

This insight into natural medicines, which has been gained sometimes only as a result of grudging acceptance by many medical practitioners educated and trained in classic Western medical schools, can be at once both helpful and yet also harmful. This is because some who advocate for an almost complete use of nature’s substances in treating ill health fail to accept that some illnesses are not susceptible to such medicinal compounds.

Surely, there are any number of illnesses or injuries which are better served through use of health foods, aroma therapies, meditation, relaxation techniques and mixtures and compounds of various roots, grasses, seeds and the like. But is every illness treatable through homeopathic remedies and therapies? Most medical professionals and dispassionate observers would say that this probably isn’t the case.

Additionally, the use of natural medicines can carry its own hazards, especially when it comes to overuse or misuse of such substances. There are cases of physical harm resulting from excessive supplementation with any number of natural compounds. Some amino acid admixtures, when taken in large doses, can lead to sometimes-fatal outcomes. This is just as true, though, when it comes to the taking of prescription medications; some of which can be extremely harmful if not taken exactly as directed.

Overall, almost every honest physician will say that people in the West have a worrying tendency to resort to prescription or even over-the-counter (OTC) packaged medicines at every turn. In actuality, they should be trying to examine their conditions and even their lives from a more holistic viewpoint.

The benefits of such a holistic approach - looking at the body as a whole — is that a person who’s beset with an illness or malady and his or her medical practitioner (whether allopath, osteopath or homeopath) can sit down, do a critical examination of all the factors impacting health and then devise an intelligent and concerted plan aimed at alleviating sickness and restoring health.

Because of this need, natural medicines can play an important role in the treatment of illness. As to whether or not they can play an exclusive role in such treatment, no honest practitioner of medicine of any type could really say that it is true. But one must be careful in not assigning excessive physical risk to natural medicines that doesn’t exist; especially when the risks of lab-created medicines are so well known.

Unfortunately, those advocates of natural medicine fail to be as understanding in their own adherence to nature’s substances as the one, true path to good health. No person suffering from possible metastatic cancer, for example, should be expected to forego medical treatment therapies or surgeries which have proven effective for a vast number of people solely to experiment with natural medicines in hopes that they’ll be even more effective. Most studies haven’t proven that to be the case, unfortunately.

In the final analysis, it has to be said that the risks being taken when trying - initially - natural medicines to treat many ailments are somewhat less than when taking some mixture cooked up in a lab. Its effectiveness depends on the ability of a person to obey directions exactly for its use, let alone how a person may react to that medication.

Happily, if the natural remedies being taken are not proving themselves effective, there is a fall back to more traditional treatments and therapies available. And when it comes to treatment of illness, the best method will always be the one which initially relies the least on extreme medical regimes.

‘Fat’ a word nobody likes and you certainly hate to see it on your body. You know exactly how many grams of fat are in all the foods you eat by heart and you’ve tried every diet on the planet.

You’ve got exercise equipment at home and you’re a member of at least one gym in the area plus, you meet with a personal trainer once month. No white starches, no sugar, no alcohol. You look in the mirror and see fat.

How is this possible?

Fatty deposits can be difficult to get rid of even if you eat only healthy foods and exercise like you’re supposed to. Dieting and exercise doesn’t allow you to spot reduce areas, but liposuction is a fat-removing procedure that can. Now, how do you know if you are a good candidate?

Here are some of the factors to consider before pursuing liposuction:

> Current Weight-Are you at the weight you want to be and have you maintained it for at least 6 months? Liposuction is not a means for weight loss. You should be at your target weight and have difficult fatty deposits that haven’t responded to your weight loss efforts.

> Overall Health-Are you in good health? Make sure to tell your surgeon about any medications and existing health conditions that may cause complications during the procedure.

Anti-coagulants and NSAIDs are some of the drugs that are contraindicated for liposuction. Having a complete physical work-up prior to the procedure can also catch any unknown conditions that might also affect your procedure.

> Expectations-If you believe that having this procedure will turn you into a supermodel, then you are not a good candidate. Unrealistic expectations lead dissatisfaction.

Now, you can have dramatic results from liposuction, but it is not a replacement for diet and exercise. What it can do for you is make your clothes fit better or give you a more contoured shape. You will not drop multiple sizes overnight.

> Lifestyle-Yes, the fat molecules are permanently removed, but new ones can always move in. To be a great candidate for liposuction, you should be prepared to make a lifestyle change. You’ve done all the hard work and lost the weight and spent the money on lipo to refine your results, now you need to maintain it.

If you revert back to all the unhealthy habits that led to your transformation, new fat cells will fill in the spaces and you are right back where you started. All your time and money -down the drain. Make the change and stick to it.

> Your Skin-Elasticity of the skin is what allows it to snap back to its original shape. If you have poor skin elasticity, liposuction may create a wrinkled or saggy look once the fat is sucked out. Often times, liposuction is used in conjunction with a tuck or a lift to combat this issue.

If you are thinking about liposuction, choose the right plastic surgeon. Make sure he is board certified and licensed to perform the procedure. There are risks involved and you want an experienced surgeon in charge.

During your consultation, be clear about what you expect and the look you want. A good surgeon will tell whether your expectations are realistic and will tell you what he can really do for you.

Dermabrasion is a mild cosmetic procedure that helps remove facial blemishes such as severe acne, scarring, and other irregularities that deflect from the overall aesthetics of the face.

Sometimes confused with microdermabrasion, a similar but less intensive treatment, dermabrasion is usually performed by a plastic surgeon and requires anesthesia to put the patient to sleep or under partial consciousness. A dermabrader is used to remove the top layers of damaged skin, allowing the smooth, unblemished layers to rise to the surface. The process can be performed in a variety of ways, and generally takes between thirty minutes and an hour.

Sometimes plastic surgeons choose to use the traditional wand device that has an abrasive rotating disc attached at one end or a dermatome, which has a blade that gradually peels away the layers of skin. Today, it is more common for different lasers to be used in order to achieve safer, even, and more effective results.

Many people find this method uncomfortable and painful, but often not unbearable. Immediately following the procedure, treated areas will be discolored, tender, and sore. Your face may feel strange and normal activities such as talking or washing may cause aches.

Swelling and pain subsides with a few days after the process, but a protective scab will begin to develop. It is important to allow the scab to grow and eventually fall off in its own time to prevent potential scarring on the new skin that lies beneath. A topical treatment that can sooth any itch or surface pain is often prescribed after the procedure.

Although a very safe way, it has some risks and potential complications that may occur. Many of these complications are minor and heal themselves within a few days or weeks. Problems such as increased sensitivity to sun, temporary discoloration or blotchiness, and whiteheads will generally disappear with proper care and patience.

More serious but rare risks include permanent pigmentation discoloration, scarring, and infection. If you are prone to keloid scarring you will want to carefully consider undergoing this process and discuss possibilities with your plastic surgeon. Report any abnormalities to a plastic surgeon immediately to avoid long term damage.

This is well suited for those with deep acne scars that are resistant to topical treatments. Not only will dermabrasion help smooth the skin’s surface, but it can help eliminate, or at the very least, greatly diminish the appearance of flat scars, even those that are in deep layers.

Pit-like scars may require additional treatments or a combination of procedures in order to effectively smooth them away. It is recommended that those seeking acne scar treatment wait until any breakouts have largely cleared in order to achieve maximum results.

Although dermabrasion is popular for those seeking acne scar treatment, the process can also help address other facial scarring, such as from a previous facial procedure or from an accident, as well as fine lines and wrinkles. This will not only result in healthier, fresher looking skin, but can give you back your confidence as well.

It happens to everybody-feeling run-down, unmotivated, tired and just sluggish. Maybe you don’t like the feeling that goes along with drinking coffee or caffeine in general or maybe it just doesn’t work for you. There are tons of pills and drinks on the market that claim to rev you up for 5-8 hours, but the problem with these are the ingredients as well as the crash afterwards.

The drinks are usually chock-full of sugar and some supplements may have other synthetic ingredients that you just don’t want to put in your body. But, you can take a natural herbal energy supplement that is gentle to your body and gives you an expected boost to get through the day. Here are some of the herbs you may find in a supplement:

* Cordyceps-This is a variety of mushroom that has long been a part of the Chinese diet. Its boosting property is believed to be improving the oxygenation of the blood and brain cells. It is often used as an ingredient in a natural herbal energy supplement.

* B Vitamins-B6 and B5 are important to the health and normal functioning of the nervous system and helps control stress responses in the body. They are also good for warding off illnesses by supporting the immune system. B12 is simply the energy vitamin. So, just taking a B Complex, you should feel your power or stamina improve.

* Ginseng-This is another plant popular in China for its endurance enhancing properties as well as improved concentration and mental acuity. It also battles the effects of stress.

* Golden Root-Rhodiola is a plant that is known for its overall boosting power and is very popular in extremely cold regions. It is believed to enhance mood, memory and endurance.

* Ashwaghanda-A variety of pepper, this herb is supposed to increase your stamina and improve adrenal functioning. Peppers are often used as a stimulant because of the natural heat they promote and the ingredient capsaicin, depending on the variety.

* Vitamin C-This is a natural anti-oxidant and great for overall better health. It helps raise the body ability to fight off illness. When you are fatigued, your immune system is compromised and you become more susceptible to illness. Adding vitamin C to an herbal power supplement helps keep you in good health and gives you a power-boost.

Even though these are natural ingredients, it is still important to talk to your doctor or pharmacist to make sure nothing will interact with your prescription medications. Also, there may be an underlying health issue causing your fatigue. Have a check-up if the problem is chronic or starts really affecting your normal daily activity.

The combinations of these herbs and vitamins or just adding one to your daily regimen can give you just the boost you need without the side-effects associated with many other power supplements. Using a non synthetic herbal energy supplement means that you won’t have the jitters, feel nauseous, over-stimulated which affects your concentration or have that sudden crash in energy when it wears off.

The High Cost of Defensive Medicine

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on February 27th, 2011

As the debate continues about health care reform one of the topics that is discussed is “tort reform.” Republicans argue for it and even the President, in a recent address, suggested that aspects of tort reform were “one the table” in order to fight the “high cost of medicine.” Proponents of tort reform argue for a limited right to sue a wrongdoer, either by imposing additional procedural roadblocks (expert certification before suit, for example) or by creating artificial limits to monetary recovery.

According to the argument in favor of imposing additional limits on patient’s rights, doctors routinely order extra, non-necessary tests, not because it is reasonable to do so but to prevent the health care provider from being sued later for “not performing every test.” There is a huge “hidden cost,” the argument goes, to all of these extra tests being ordered (and paid for by someone, usually an insurance company.) “We could lower the cost of medicine,” tort reform proponents argue, if doctors weren’t so afraid and thus, didn’t have to order all of these unnecessary tests.

It is an almost perfect argument because it is so hard to come up with facts to argue against it. It sounds bad. It almost sounds logical. But, in fact, whenever you hear the argument made it is always in this form: “the estimated cost of defensive medicine is….”

I suggest that when someone makes an argument that tort reform is necessary to prevent the “huge expense” of so-called defensive medicine” that we look at the issue objectively. Because the practice of defensive medicine is contrary to existing, well-established practice and law, the burden should be on the proponents of the existence of “defensive medicine” to prove that it even exists. If it does exist, the burden should be on the proponent that argument to prove it exists.

It is easy to throw out huge numbers, use “junk” in front of “lawsuit” every time you mention malpractice and demonize patients and their lawyers. Let’s ask for the facts.

First, tort law does not require perfection. The law of medical malpractice only requires that a doctor practice in accord with the “standard of care.” The “standard of care” is simply that care that would be required by a “reasonably prudent physician acting in the same or similar circumstances.” It is that care that a consensus of “reasonably prudent doctors” would have engaged in with the information they had at the time the decision for care occurred. When a doctor does or fails to do something required by the standard of care, then he or she is negligent. If harm results from that negligence, then he or she is responsible to the patient for that harm.

Doctors and patients act as a team. The doctor does an assessment of the situation, takes into account the information reasonably available at the time, and recommends a treatment. The standard of care requires that a doctor explain to the patient both the risks and the benefits of the proposed course of treatment. Ultimately, it is the patient, being fully advised, who makes the decision as to the course of treatment.

So-called “defensive medicine” should be defined as a test that is ordered that has no reasonable basis for giving the physician-patient team information that would be useful to the decision making process of the patient-doctor team. The fact that a test is run but turns up a negative result (i.e. disclosed no new problem is disclosed) does not mean the test was not a reasonable course of action at the time. Thus, the fact that a test turns up a “negative” result does not mean the test was an act of “defensive medicine.” In order to believe that there is a true, measureable, cost of so-called defensive medicine, one would first have to ask: how do we know it is actually happening? Those that are “reporting” that they engage in “defensive medicine” are the doctors who have a vested interest in the argument or their medical associations or lobbyists. They “report” practicing defensive medicine but how should a rational person actually measure this or test the assertion?

Think about it. Anyone who says he or she routinely engages in defensive medicine is admitting that they practice outside the standard of care. They admit that they routinely engage in conduct that is, by definition in every state, medical malpractice. Indeed, they are admitting that in their discussion with the patient about the next step to take in their health care, they are lying when they disclose the risks and benefits of the proposed treatment.

Second, any doctor who admits they engage in “defensive medicine” is admitting they are engaging in insurance fraud. Yes, that’s right, insurance fraud. A health insurance company is generally bound by contract to pay only those claims that are reasonable and necessary to treat illness or injury. The practice of “defensive medicine” is, by definition, an admission that two people are being lied to and victimized by fraud: the patient and the insurance company. (Either that or the patient and doctor are conspiring to defraud the insurance company.)

The only objective, rational way to know whether “defensive medicine” is being practiced is to look at a patient’s actual medical records and have that care reviewed by other “reasonably prudent physicians.” This is never done. A doctor who says “I practice defensive medicine (i.e. I lie to the patients and defraud the insurance company) never says “and here are my records to prove it.” How could they? They would go to jail.

The next time you hear a doctor asserting that he or she engages in the fraudulent, improper practice of “defensive medicine” ask him or her if they will produce the actual medical records (patient identifiers removed) to prove the claim. Have them tell us that they had a face to face conversation with the patient (as is required under the standard of care) and told the patient “the test I want to order has no reasonable value to the decision-making process in your care.”

It doesn’t happen.

I suggest that in truth, there is very, very little so-called “defensive medicine” actually practiced in the United States. When sent off for testing a patient should always ask and demand an answer for this question: “doctor, what is the scientific and medical basis for this test? What are the odds that something important will be missed if I don’t have this test?”

How To Stop Sweating: Hyperhidrosis

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on February 26th, 2011

Few things are more embarrassing than excessive underarm sweating known as hyperhidrosis. You wave to a friend or motion during a presentation, and all you can hope is that no one notices how drenched the underarms of your shirt are. Worst of all, you can’t control your sweating no matter how much antiperspirant you lather on. For decades, people suffering from hyperhidrosis have lived embarrassed and self-conscious – until an amazing discovery was recently made. Botox, the treatment trusted by millions to smooth their wrinkles, also has the power to treat hyperhidrosis.

Do I have hyperhidrosis…or am I just sweating?

Sweating is the body’s natural way of regulating its temperature. When a person suffers from uncontrollable sweating that exceeds what the body needs to cool itself, that’s known as hyperhidrosis. And there are two different kinds – primary and secondary. Secondary hyperhidrosis is more serious and often requires medical attention.

Much more common is primary hyperhidrosis, and just as many women as men suffer from it. The condition usually starts during adolescence or even slightly before – when kids are self-conscious enough without their sweat glands making things even harder. So even though 1% of the population is diagnosed with primary hyperhidrosis, many more are probably suffering but are too embarrassed to seek treatment. Though it’s the last thing any teen wants to talk about with their parents, the condition is thought to be hereditary.

Botox – the ultimate antiperspirant

Botox is the most revolutionary treatment out there for excessive underarm sweating (to impress your friends, you can call it ‘axillary hyperhidrosis’). Treatment consists of a small amount of Botox that’s injected just under the skin, right near the sweat glands that are causing your excessive perspiration. It temporarily blocks the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. And when the sweat glands don’t receive those signals, the severe sweating stops – for 6-9 months, and sometimes even longer!

This treatment didn’t get the best introduction to the general public – you may remember tabloid stories about Sharon Stone wanting to Botox her 8-year-old son’s feet to keep them from smelling. But people suffering from hyperhidrosis have experienced true, amazing results from Botox – a treatment that’s more economical than you might imagine.

Turning yellow into green

Think back to all the T’s and dress shirts you’ve had to throw out and replace because the underarms had turned a less-than-attractive (and permanent) shade of yellow. With the money you’ll save on constant dry cleaning and new clothing purchases, it won’t be long until your Botox treatment pays for itself. Throw in the peace of mind and confidence you’ll gain knowing that people are finally looking at you and not your pit stains – and this miraculous treatment for hyperhidrosis becomes priceless.

Hyperhidrosis treatments beyond your underarms

Excessive sweating can strike in more places than just your underarms. Your hands, feet and the groin area are some of the most active regions of perspiration since they’ve got a relatively high concentration of sweat glands. But any part of your body can be affected by hyperhidrosis. For those areas there are topical and oral medications as well as injectable therapies and surgical options. Just as with Botox treatments, it’s important to find a physician who’s experienced in treating hyperhidrosis and who can deliver just the right treatment for you.

In this article, Suzy Cohen shares her perspective on cholesterol lowering and diabetic medications. Suzy Cohen has been a pharmacist for over 20 years. She’s the author of “24-hour Pharmacist” and “Drug Muggers.”

Kevin: Jan asks, “How do you convince, say your parents, who are on statins,” her

parents are 82 years old she says, “and other drugs are not good and there are alternatives ” This is a big question too.

Suzy: Her parents are in their 80s. This is tough because they grew up with the mentality that the doctor is God complex, the doctor knows everything. So it’s hard for the daughter to convince them, especially because they changed her diapers. What does she know Right I had to battle this with my own parents so I totally get this. I think the best way to approach them is gently and with black and white information. If you appeal to them emotionally you’re not going to get anywhere. But if you appeal to them logically you may get somewhere. So maybe print out a study that is written in good language, or copy chapter four from my book, “Straight from the Heart,” where I talk about why cholesterol drugs can hasten your death. Why they can increase your risk of heart attack. And they can. Studies are now showing that statin drugs can increase your risk for cancer. These are studies that are out there. You can find these by Googling on the Internet.

Print that and show them and say, “I love you but I’ve got to tell you I just saw this article written by America’s Pharmacist,” or written by doctor so-and-so. “I love you and I’m concerned that you’re not going in a good direction with these medications because they can damage your liver, they can cause you to lose your memory, they can cause leg cramps and fatigue. Is any of this happening to you ” If the answer is yes then hand them the article and say, “I know why. It’s because these medications are lowering your cholesterol so much that they’re also lowering a heart-healthy nutrient. It’s not a good thing.”

A lot of people can be sustained and lower cholesterol naturally with things as simple as omega-3 fish oils. It’s very powerful. Co-enzyme Q10, this is very powerful. A lot of people use red yeast rice as well or polycosenol. You can also use things like gugulipid. There’s so many natural things.

Eating a high-fiber diet and cutting out meat is also important. Personally, I don’t think we need to just lower cholesterol to the numbers that they are suggesting to us right now. They want us to lower it so, so much because that way they can get as many people as possible on a statin drug. It’s just gotten crazy. How low do we need to go

You don’t feel well with low cholesterol. You need cholesterol to feel well. If they can convince the American public that it needs to go below this number, below 200 total cholesterol or below 100 LDL, or whatever, then they can get eight year olds on statin drugs, beat that.

Kevin: Wow. So you’re saying that as they’re lowering the cholesterol people are staying on statin drugs.

Suzy: Yeah. They’re getting more and more people on them. Here’s the thing, lowering

cholesterol in someone with heart disease is like blowing the smoke out of a house that’s on fire. It doesn’t matter. You’ve got to stop the fire. You’ve got to blow the fire out. The fact that someone’s cholesterol is high is just basically telling you that their arteries, their veins, their capillaries, are cracked. There’s these microscopic lesions on them. The cholesterol goes there to patch it up. So if you have high cholesterol you’ve find that your arteries aren’t flexible any more. It’s a red flag. It’s something that you should go, “Uh-oh, I need to eat differently. I need to unclog my arteries.” Something like nattokinese would be helpful as well, blood thinner, very helpful for unclogging arteries, in my opinion. Those statements have not been approved by the FDA. [Laughs] My qualifying statement.

Kevin: I think it’s true, you have to.

Suzy: Yeah, but here’s the thing. I don’t care what somebody’s cholesterol is so much as I care what their LPA is. It’s another blood test. But you’re not going to hear about measuring your LPA because there isn’t a drug to lower it, there is only vitamins and amino acids and nutrients that lower it. So you’re not going to hear about LPA. But that’s a blood test that can measure how much gunky-junk is stuck in your arteries. It’s a far better predictor than measuring cholesterol. Measuring cholesterol is useless as far as I’m concerned. Again, it’s a red flag. It’s just saying your arteries need attention, that there’s a lot of cholesterol being made in order to rush to the site where there’s all these microscopic little cracks in the arteries.

Kevin: Can someone ask a doctor to get their LPA

Suzy: Yes. If you want to know how well your heart and your circulation is doing, then there are tests that you need to ask your doctor for. You need to insist on these. One of them is measuring your LPA. Another one is high sensitivity C-reactive protein — that’s different than a regular C-reactive protein. You want a high sensitivity one.

Kevin: What’s the difference

Suzy: This measures inflammation. Another thing you want to ask for is testing your fibrinogen level, and others. Again, that’s because I don’t really care so much what your cholesterol levels are. Do you know why Because I don’t make any money or profit from the sale of statin drugs so it doesn’t matter to me what the cholesterol is. The people who care a lot about it are the ones who are making the drugs to lower it. They want that measured and they want that number down.

Kevin: It’s just singular. I think that’s one of the biggest challenges. There’s never a holistic approach when it comes to these medications.

Suzy: Well, some of the better doctors are talking about holistic approaches. I’m making some headway. I’ve been doing this for 11 years and I’m like a gnat in the press. The doctors were just scratching their heads trying to figure me out at first, this was eleven years ago going, “Who is she and why is she saying this ” Now I’m a trusted resource for them. They buy my books. They want to know more. They ask me questions about their patients and email and we correspond. I have doc friends all over the world. The smartest ones are the ones who already know this or if they don’t they’re willing to listen. You’d be surprised. Again, doctors care about their patients. They want them to do better. They’re not all just trying to get through the day harrowed and hurry up. A lot of them really, really care. They just don’t know. They believe what they read. They believe what they hear at their educational seminars. It’s almost like they’re indoctrinated. They don’t realize that the medication they’re prescribing can be harmful

to some of their patients. They’re not right for everybody.

Look at Avandia. Avandia is a popular drug that controls blood sugar, a blockbuster diabetic medicine. It’s been out for several years. What they found out about it is — it’s been under fire before — but in May of 2008 a study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine that found more dangers, particularly heart problems, so blatantly obvious that the FDA forced the makers of Avandia to post a black-box warning. It doesn’t get any worse than a black-box warning, except if they pull the drug and take it off the market. Here’s the part where I fell out of my chair. The scientists ultimately concluded even after the studies about heart problems, they even concluded that it was inconclusive as to whether this drug contributed to these deaths. Are you kidding me

I’m not a brain surgeon but Avandia is a drug mugger for many B vitamins like folate and B12, and co-Q10. We’ve already been talking long enough for you to realize that when you run out of your B vitamins and co-Q10, your muscles suffer. Your heart is the hardest working muscle of all. Your heart suffers. Is it any surprise to anybody that a drug mugger of co-Q10 and B vitamins is going to cause heart trouble Duh.

People who have my book or who have been reading my columns do this. They know that diabetic medicines deplete the body of B12 , a lot of the Bs and also co-Q10. They supplement with those. So they get to enjoy the effects of their medication, if they need it, plus they have a much lower risk of heart disease, heart attack, heart failure and also cancer.

Many people have problems with their jaws. For some of them, this is a momentary problem. For others, it is a disorder. In case it is a disorder, the most probable problem is when the lower jaw meets with the upper one. A lot of pain results and it is often referred to as jaw joint pain. It is so called since it is the jaw joint that is often affected.

Almost 60 percent of all incidences of jaw joint pain are as a result of too much stress being exerted on the muscles and the ligaments that surround the jaw joint. This disorder is commonly referred to as temporo mandibular disorder. The pain becomes very prevalent since the jaw has very many obligations and it is therefore to avoid movement of the jaw joint.

Why Would You Be In Jaw Joint Pain?

When wisdom teeth are growing, it is also very common for people to experience jaw joint pain. This phenomenon is also very common. It helps a lot for one to visit an orthodontist in order to have the problem rectified. In case there are misalignments, the jaw joint pain may get worse. There are many indicators that warn an individual that pain is beckoning. For instance, a constant headache is a warning sign that you should look out for.

Painkillers might be worth trying out on at the beginning but if they seem to be unable to ease the pain, you may have to seek medical attention. It is only a specialist who will advise you on how best to deal with the problem on a long-term basis.
