Boost Lung and Nasal Health With Pleurisy Root

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on December 28th, 2010

The pleurisy plant is a perennial herb that has several stems. It can be found growing three feet high, with branches at the top. The leaves are dark green on the upper surface and pale green on the underside. The flowers are richly colored orange and are found blooming from June through September. This plant is a member of the milkweed family. Monarchs, swallowtails, and other butterflies are especially attracted to the pleurisy plant when it is in flower. The plant prefers open, dry fields. It is often growing in abundance in the southern United States. Similar to other milkweeds, pleurisy root produces pods that reveal rows of silky reeds that drift in the wind in autumn. However, unlike most milkweeds, this species does not produce a milky sap.

This plant is native to North America. It was long used by Indians and pioneers. Often, it was spread onto sores after being powdered and mixed into a paste. Indians of several regions brewed a tea from the leaves to induce vomiting in certain rituals, while settlers and Indians alike made a tea from the root to induce perspiration and expectoration in severe respiratory conditions. Pleurisy was listed in the U.S. Pharmacopeia in the 19th century.

Pleurisy root developed its name because of its use for treating lung conditions. The name comes from the Greek root word pleura, which means “lung membranes.” This name implies that this herb is extremely valuable for treating pleurisy. This is because it relieves chest pain and eases breathing difficulties. Pleurisy was used by Native Americans. Then, they introduced it to the European settlers who were suffering from numerous respiratory problems.

This herb works primarily as an expectorant. Pleurisy helps to expel phlegm from bronchial and nasal passages. The herb is responsible for opening lung capillaries. This aids in the release of mucus, which thins discharge. This process helps to reduce lung congestion and improve breathing.

In addition to its uses for pulmonary problems, pleurisy root is also used as a gentle tonic. This tonic helps with stomach pain that is caused by gas, indigestion, and dysentery.

Additionally, pleurisy root is a powerful diaphoretic. It increases body temperature and opens pores to induce perspiration. It has also been used against poisoning and acute rheumatism. Unfortunately, this is not recommended for children.

The root of the pleurisy plant is used to provide alterative, anodyne, antispasmodic, carminative, diaphoretic, diuretic, emetic, expectorant, febrifuge, nervine, mild purgative, and stimulant properties. Primarily, pleurisy is extremely beneficial in treating spasmodic asthma, bronchitis, acute dysentery, emphysema, fevers, indigestion, lung disorders, pleurisy, and pneumonia. Additionally, this herb is very helpful in dealing with croup, contagious diseases, flu, gas, kidney problems, measles, and excessive mucus, absent perspiration, poisoning, acute rheumatism, scarlet fever, tuberculosis, and typhus.

In order to obtain the best results when supplementing with this, or any herb, it is important to consult your health care provider before beginning any regimen while on prescription medications. For more information on the many beneficial effects provided by pleurisy, please feel free to consult a representative from your local health food store with questions.

If you have ever immediately become relaxed by smelling freshly cut grass or rejuvenated by smelling fresh peppermint, then you can attest to the fact that scents have the ability to alter human behavior and emotion. A new study has shown that the smell of coffee by itself has the ability to provide necessary antioxidant benefits, while also dramatically calming you.

Of course, we all rely upon a cup of Joe in the morning to wake us up and get us through the day, but simply smelling the great aroma of Java does have the ability to have affects on your behavior and emotion. The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry did cite that smelling coffee provides pleasure and also powerful antioxidant properties. These antioxidant benefits work to protect the cells in your body from damage caused by stress. This is an important finding because drinking coffee has dramatic antioxidant benefits to neutralize free radicals within the body. However, now you can also use coffee aromas to prevent free radical damage that can cause premature aging and disease.

Within the study, adult rats were tested who were stressed out from sleep deprivation. The study was supposed to be able to show how coffee aromas influenced their brain functions and impacted their behaviors. After the test was complete, the results did show that the aromas of roasted coffee beans changed the protein levels in the brains of the rats. This also showed that smelling coffee aromas has the ability to enhance valuable proteins in the brain that provide healthy antioxidant benefits. This worked to protect the body’s cells from stress damage simply by sniffing coffee.

Interestingly enough, you can find this evidence in ancient medicinal practices. There were many bottles of aromatic medicines found in Egyptian tombs, and there were also writings from the ancient Romans, Greeks, and Chinese to provide evidence that they used the smell of specific aromas for healing purposes. One of the biggest industries growing within alternative medicine today is the practice of aromatherapy. This is a holistic method that uses botanical oils that are smelled or massaged into the skin. These oils will directly affect the nervous system and brain through the stimulation of the olfactory nerves within the body.

Truthfully, smell is one of the most complex of all our five senses, and it does directly affect behaviors and emotions when the body processes a scent. It also stimulates the portion of the brain that is responsible for short term memory, which would explain why you have specific emotions or memories when you smell the perfume that you used to wear in high school. Research is not complete on all of these subjects, but it is proven that if you do smell coffee, it has the ability to relax you and provide healthy antioxidant benefits to combat stress. I can think of nothing better than smelling and sipping a fresh cup of Joe to drink to your health!

Facts You Must Know About Medications Online

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on December 27th, 2010

With the slow economy and many people now having to live on restricted budgets several people are turning to the internet for purchasing their medication and prescription drugs to try to save money. While it is true that there are some legitimate online pharmacies that you can purchase your medications from, there are some facts you must know about medications online and some things you should watch out for if you are purchasing your medicine online or considering it.

To begin with you should always remember that you usually do get what you pay for. This includes purchasing your medication online. While some sites may promise you that you can get your prescription at a very percentage of what you would normally pay at your local pharmacy you should know that you may pay for it in other ways including your health. There are many online pharmacies that claim to sell name brand prescriptions for a small amount and yet when you receive the medication you will find that it is not the name brand or even the type of medication you need at all. You also run the risk of getting the incorrect dosage which can be lethal for some. If you get too much of certain medications you can run the risk of seizures, heart problems and much more.
Another thing to consider about purchasing your medications online is that you do not know what they are putting in your medication. You would run the risk of putting dangerous chemicals and materials in your body just to save some money.

You should also keep in mind if you are considering purchasing your medications online that some of the online drug stores do not follow the law and you could be putting yourself at risk. There are some online pharmacies that do not require a prescription for certain medications that normal pharmacies would require one for. This also puts you at risk because while you may think you are doing yourself a favor by getting medications that sound harmless, you have no idea how your body will react. Your doctor knows which medications are right for you and will give you a prescription if they think you really need it.
Besides this you may find that the online pharmacy you are shopping at is not licensed and therefore not really a pharmacy at all. This could endanger you because they will give you the wrong information on the medication you are purchasing as well as the wrong dosage information.
One problem that some people have come across when looking to purchase medications online is that the so-called pharmacy did not protect their information and their credit card information was given out and they fell victims to identity theft.

While there are many things to look for if you are considering purchasing your medications online there are some legitimate pharmacies get you your medication and save you some money. To find a legitimate online pharmacy you should first check them out with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy to make sure they are licensed. Next make sure that they require a prescription from your doctor. You will also want to make sure that the online pharmacy you are considering has a USA address or a Canadian address. Some online pharmacies claim to be located in America but really all they have is a P.O. Box with an American address. You can also do some research on the company you are considering online. This is a great way to see if other customers have posted reviews and what they have to say about the pharmacy.
In conclusion, as long as you are careful and do your research you can save yourself some money and get the medications you need safely and easily!

Why Should I Order From Online Drug Stores?

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on December 27th, 2010

It seems there is no end to advertisements for online drugstores. With the rising costs of prescription medications and even many over-the-counter medications and medical supplies it is no surprise that consumers are looking to find the most cost effective way to obtain their medications. An online drug store may be just the answer you have been looking for.

You should consider an online drug store for your medical needs for several reasons. The first being they are often much more cost effective than buying your medical supplies and prescriptions locally. There is a wide range of prices for the exact same medication depending on where you live, what name brand chain may be filling your prescription orders or simply because your local drug store has decided to assign a huge mark up for certain medications or supplies.

Other than finding a discounted price for your medication and other medical needs, there is the added convenience of shopping an online drug store. Many individuals are elderly or home bound due to physical limitations. Waiting for someone to take them to purchase their medical supplies may mean they do without rather than bother a friend or family member with an unexpected trip to the store. By ordering from an online drug store you can have your supplies delivered right to your home. Before you begin worrying about the cost of shipping your order, you should know that many online drug stores offer free shipping with a minimum purchase. When ordering monthly supplies such as prescription medications or diabetic supplies many online drug stores can sign you up for automatic shipment of your supplies assuring you of never running short because you had no way to get to a store to make your purchase.

Most online stores also allow you to purchase a 90 day supply of medications for chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Often ordering several months supply means additional savings on ‘bulk’ supplies. While some local drugstores are now allowing that option you still face lines and waiting to get prescriptions filled if you haven’t been able to call ahead an order.

Because most online drug stores also carry other products besides prescription medications, it is possible to have the added convenience of obtaining other needed items from the same drug store supplier further saving time and money.

All reputable online drug stores have contact information clearly available. You can often speak with a customer service representative online in a live chat situation, via e-mail, by phone or a customer feedback option.

As with doing business locally, always spend some time comparing the services and products various online drug stores offer. Contact the online drug store’s customer service representative and ask any questions you may have that aren’t clearly presented online. Always make sure the online drug store has a secure shopping cart where your ordering information is kept private and available to you only with use of a password. Save all transaction notices and receipts and never give out your credit card or password information.

Remember that Acne has been defined as an inflammatory skin disease involving the sebaceous glands of the skin. This disease is characterized by papules or pustules or comedones. Papules are a small inflamed elevation of skin that is non-suppurative as in chicken pox. And pustules refer to small inflamed elevation of skin containing pus or a blister filled with pus. A black-tipped plug clogging a pore of the skin is called comedones. A person suffering from Acne will also have red spots on some portion of the skin.

Now let us go ahead and find out what are the causes of Acne.
There are four main causes of getting Acne:

1.It can be hereditary

2.Your current diet plan is flawed

3.Your existing lifestyle is inappropriate

4.Major hormonal changes in the body

Earlier, it was believed that only teenage boys and girls were affected by this skin disease but recent research shows that even adults, including pregnant women suffer from Acne.

Remember there are many possible treatment methods for Acne. Here are some effective ways that can be followed to get rid of Acne. In case you want to get rid of Acne, you need to basically:

Common Complaints From Online Pharmacy Reviews

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on December 26th, 2010

Online Pharmacies offer subtle shipping, low prices and a wide variety of pills. Ideally, using online pharmacies give you less hassle in ordering your medication. But, there are several problems with this industry. Some people have positive experiences with these while other people had terrible experiences with online pharmacies. Simply put, there are cheaters who operate such schemes. Other times, customers are just unlucky. Whatever the reason, different people have different experiences with online pharmacies. By reading through pharmacy review sites, here are the most common complaints encountered with these websites.

Package did not arrive

This is the most common and most bothering complaint found in review sites. After ordering with online websites, the buyer never gets the package. This is the common ground of most blacklisted pharmacies in the internet. However, not getting the order is not always a case of cheating. There are cases that the medicine was simply lost in the mail or was confiscated by local officials. In that case, an online pharmacy would usually try to amend the set back by shipping a new package free of charge.

On the other hand, some clients were not as lucky as they encountered real liars. These people would take advantage of the long wait and run the person in circles to buy time. Their goal is to have the person wait until he/she runs out of time to file for money back with their card company. Be careful of such companies as these are the real evil doers of the industry. They simply grab the money of those who need the medication and leave the customer with nothing except a bigger problem

Terrible Customer Service

The purpose of a customer service support is to ensure customer satisfaction. They are there to answer questions of their customers. These people are there to update the customer about his/her package. In other words, these are the people who tell the customer where and when the product will arrive, tell the client the status of their medication and take care of the customer’s needs. But, customer service support will only be effective if done right.

If a customer gets hold of customer service and the latter cannot answer to the query then it’s useless. Other times, customers complain not just about the inability to answer of customer service, but their total disregard as well. There are those who not only don’t know what to say, but they treat the customer terribly as well.

Another frequent complaint by clients about customer service support is that they run them in circles. Sometimes, customer service entirely doesn’t exist.

Credit Card Fraud

There are times an online pharmacy would indeed send the order right on time. But once the client’s credit card statement arrives, he/she will find excessive charges. There are cases that the extra charge is hidden. Other instances report that the client paid for website membership fees without their consent.

Simply put, there are companies that charge more than the client bargained for. In other instances however, the problem could have stemmed from simple human error. In either case, the problem can be resolved by first contacting the company’s customer support service. If this proves to be a waste of time, then the next step is to contact the credit card company in order to successfully deal with the problem.

Product received is different

Another common problem with buying from online pharmacies is the fact that they can give you different pills from what you ordered. Again, this problem can be the cause of different circumstances. It can be the fault in part of the company, the deliverer or simple miscommunication. There are cases that the orders were simply mixed up as well.

Most cases of wrong delivery can be cleared up with the online pharmacy’s customer service support. But, if they cannot be contacted, it would again be best to contact the credit card company.

Product received in unusable condition

Sometimes the order received from an online pharmacy can turn out to have been crushed due to shipping. Most of the time this problem is not caused by the online pharmacy but the deliverer used by the company. Sometimes the online pharmacy would send a new package of pills if this happens. On the other hand, there will be those who would simply point the responsibility to others and leave the customer on his/her own.

Online pharmacies offer an easier, faster and cheaper way for people to buy the pills that they need. But consumers should always remember that this process is not perfect as well. There are instances of things going wrong or the company is a scammer. It is always best to read first from through pharmacy review sites before purchasing to be sure, safe and secure.

Just Say No to the Swine Flu Vaccination

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on December 26th, 2010

The Swine flu also called the H1N1 flu virus is infecting thousands of people every day. The government has wasted precious time trying to figure out how to combat this disease. They believe that a vaccination is the only answer, but they are fighting among themselves as to whether you need one or two shots. The drug companies, of course, prefer two shots because they can sell twice as much and have a better chance of their vaccine working, but this also doubles your chance of a severe reaction.

There is new evidence that the Swine Flu can be prevented without a vaccination. You can just say NO to the swine flu vaccination.

A vaccination is a substance that stimulates your body’s immune system to fight off a virus. The problem with a flu vaccination is that it is made from a strain of flu that has already been present in the population. A virus is a brain without the body because it is just DNA. Each year a new flu virus appears because the virus mutates. Mutation in a virus is when the DNA in the virus changes so that the bodies immune system does not recognize it and then the virus can invade the body and create the flu. Thus this years flu vaccine is for last years flu.

Many doctors do not believe in vaccinations because of the risks the vaccines present. The substances that are put in the vaccinations to preserve them make some people very sick.

When you hear about a medical device recall or drug recall, what exactly does that mean? Are you at risk? What can you do to understand how this may affect you? This series of posts will walk you through the basics of understanding medical device recalls and drug recalls and what you can do to assess the risks.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is the governmental entity that regulates the medical device and pharmaceutical industry, but the FDA isn’t usually the party that initiates device recalls or drug recalls. In most cases, the medical device or drug manufacturer discovers a potential problem and initiates a recall, reporting such action to the FDA. Manufacturers, in most cases, understand the risks to public health (as well as risks to their business) and tend to be proactive in addressing problems. Failure to take such actions can result in far greater consequences to a company; therefore most companies do behave responsibly once problems are known.

When a company decides to initiate a medical device recall or a drug recall, they will issue communications to their users — either hospitals and surgeons, or direct to patients, depending on the product and the way it is used. For drug recalls, notifications are usually sent through media outlets, as tracing which patients received which affected lot of product is very difficult. For medical device recalls, notifications are usually sent direct to surgeons, particularly in the case of implanted devices.

For implanted devices, a patient’s file will contain what are commonly called ‘peel and stick’ labels. These are identifying labels that come with each implantable device, noting the lot number, manufacturing number, and any other relevant information. These labels are affixed to the patient file, allowing the medical staff to know exactly what is inside a particular patient.

Should you hear about a device recall, the first step in assessing your personal risk is to request a copy of your ‘peel and stick’ labels from your surgeon or hospital. In most cases, these should be readily provided. While your medical professional should be able to help you understand if you are impacted by a device recall, the ‘peel and stick’ information will be essential should you choose to contact the manufacturer directly.

The Facts of Therapeutic Substitution

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on December 25th, 2010

There currently are pharmacies that are practicing therapeutic substitution when it comes to filling prescription medications. Therapeutic substitution happens when a drug that is considered to be therapeutically equivalent to a second drug, even though it might not be chemically equivalent to the prescribed drug, is given to the person filling the prescription without their permission or acknowledgment. That means that a pharmacy can change your prescribed medication to a different one without asking for your permission or letting you know beforehand. It can happen due to costs to the insurer, changes in insurance coverage, new drugs on the market that can treat the same condition, a medication is no longer covered by the insurance company, when your doctor wants you to switch to a drug that might be more effective, and when another drug is available at a lower cost. Pharmacies can also do a substitution if the drug you are prescribed is not on the pre-approved list that insurance will cover.

There are negative sides to therapeutic substitution because the new drug might not work as well or might differently that the one originally prescribed. It could have side effects that you are not aware of or might have a negative interaction with other prescriptions that you make take. The new drug might have a dosing schedule that could be inconvenient for you.

It is recommended to check the label of your medication after it is filled to make sure that it is the one that was originally prescribed. If you have questions or feel unsure about something, don’t feel afraid to talk to your pharmacist.

Proton Pump Inhibitors

When it comes to offering the acid reflux sufferer relief, Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI’s), and Histamine 2 (H2) blockers, are miracle drugs in one important sense…

They work every time!

This is a blessing for countless millions of unfortunate GERD victims; on the other hand, it’s also a license to print money for the pharmaceutical giants.

Just imagine! Instant relief from heartburn and pain!

However, there could be a problem.

Despite the advice not to exceed the 60 to 80 day treatment period, if your physician diagnosed chronic GERD or repetitive acid reflux, he may have had no choice, other than to give you a repeat ‘maintenance’ prescription.

You trust your doctor, right? So you accepted his advice without question. In fact, you probably ignored those baffling scientifically worded pharmacological actions, contra indications and warnings printed on the package insert.

Believe me, this is no accident…

Those high priced marketing gurus employed by the pharmaceutical giants, know that the poor dude who’s desperate for some relief isn’t going to rush out and invest in a medical dictionary.

The result?

People are seldom aware of the implications and dangers associated with long-term use of these medications.

Here are some harsh truths:

PPI’s Halt Production of Stomach Acid

Period!

Without adequate hydrochloric acid, the stomach partially shuts down.

The result?

  • Lack of digestive acid turns the stomach into a nice warm, not too acidic breeding vat, perfect for harmful microorganisms to thrive and multiply unchecked.
  • With limited acid, the body is unable to digest food efficiently. To make matters worse, the stomach cannot absorb calcium, minerals and other nutrients essential for optimum health.

Doctors and Pharmaceutical giants know that their drugs and antacids cannot cure recurrent acid reflux or GERD. In fact, they know that these drugs simply suppress the symptoms and do sweet blow-all to prevent the chase-your-tail cycle of heartburn -> acid reflux -> and drugs.

If you’ve fallen prey to this medical cycle you are headed toward serious malnutrition.

The inability to feed your body the nutrients it needs could soon result in some of the diseases that plague elderly people.

Because your mouth and stomach are the first step towards getting nutrients into your body, you don’t want to get this step wrong. If you are taking PPI’s, H2 blockers, or even common antacid, its time you re-evaluated the use of these drugs.

  • Fact: Your stomach is designed to have a pH of 3.0 or less, (more acidic).
  • Fact: When you stomach pH is consistently higher than 3.0, (more alkaline), bacteria is able to thrive and create disease.
  • Fact: Taking PPI’s, H2 blockers or antacids raises and keeps your stomach pH above 3.0.

In other words, you are not only starving yourself to death by degrees, you are also:

  • Weakening your bones.
  • Robbing your system of minerals and vitamins.
  • And incubating disease, illness and future misery without even knowing it!
  • </ul The long-term harmful side effects of PPI’s and H2 blockers are too numerous to list on this page.

Want to find out more? Visit The Harvard School of Medicine Family Health Guide to Acid Reflux.

We cannot overstress the following: These acid reflux medications are designed to treat your GERD symptoms; they are not designed to cure your disease. Although PPI’s halt the pain of acid reflux, they do so at a huge cost to you, the consumer.

The world’s powerful drug manufacturers are fully aware of all this and they’re doing precisely zero, zip, nada, nothing to correct the problem!

In fact, there’s almost no research being done on developing a less harmful replacement for PPI’s.

If you look at from their point of view, it’s not surprising those backroom research boffins are taking a holiday from this chore. After all, why spend time and money on something that’s going to slaughter such a lucrative Cash Cow?

    You May Already be Addicted

The tragedy? By now you may be hooked. If you’ve been taking these drugs for an extended period, you may have a problem:

    • If you stopped cold turkey, your proton pumps could go ballistic and produce so much acid that you’d wish you were dead.

As far as the drug companies are concerned, this is an added windfall.

Think about it, if it were easy to quit, and if PPI’s actually cured GERD, people would stop pouring their money into the pharmaceutical treasuries.

Make no mistake, these giants want your monthly contribution regardless.

Know what makes it even more ironic?

Those evil so-and-so’s are smugly aware that your acid reflux ransom will keep on rolling in until the day you die… and there’s nothing you can do about it!

But wait! Now that you know a few home truths, you’ve got an ace up your sleeve… A few simple steps and bingo! You can prevent all this from happening.

    Who’s your daddy?

Heck, even if you happen to be one of the rare unfortunates who cannot be cured through dietary and lifestyle changes, you can always fall back on surgery, such as the time-tested Nissen fundoplication, or the exciting new Linx technology.
