Crohn's Medication - Is it Worth it?

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on September 30th, 2010

Medication is never the only way to health when it comes to Crohn’s, and that is why the Crohn’s disease diet exists in the first place. However, when Crohn’s nutrition may not be enough in the early stages, medication may become, not a necessity, but a factor in promoting health and less to no discomfort.

One medication is called Tysabri, also known officially as Natalizumab. In general, medication and the Crohn’s diet have the same goal-to prevent and decrease pain, encourage a stable bathroom routine that is not too high in numbers, and, worst of all, surgery for the prior two goals.

Many medications have two names-a medical one that is “official,” and a public one that is often shorter and more “catchy.” Tysabri, or Natalizumab, is an anti-TNF biologic drug, which helps Crohn’s for it helps with a tumor necrosis factor. The ironic part is that the medication was meant for multiple sclerosis. However, the medication was pulled for that disease after evidence shown a strong correlation with that medication and three rare cancer types when used with immunosuppressants.

It has been shown that medicine may not always be beneficial-does the means justify the ends, especially from a patient’s perspective, as it will be much more concerned with “the means” than the prescribing doctor who is only doing his or her job to defeat the disease? In fact, Tysabri, or Natalizumab, was originally meant for a bone and joint condition; the Crohn’s diet is meant for Crohn’s in mind originally, so there are fewer potential side effects, and a better chance at healing the GI tract.

Note that the three cancers were not regarding a Crohn’s diagnosis, and only a multiple sclerosis one. However, there was, of course, a mass panic and uproar, which led to the drug being recalled. Tysabri, or Natalizumab, came back to help those with Crohn’s, though Crohn’s nutrition can help just the same, especially with the side effects.

Note, the European Union did approve the drug for multiple sclerosis aware of the potential consequence of rare cancers. However, it did not approve the same medication for Crohn’s patients because of the risk factor ratio to benefits. The US did in 2008. Tysabri, or Natalizumab, is used to induce a state of reduced pain and discomfort and keep it in patients, much like the Crohn’s disease diet. However, for some reason, the US allowed the harmful drug to pass for people already in pain; Crohn’s nutrition is a natural, and therefore practically a side-effect-free method of inducing a state of reduced pain and discomfort and keeping such as state.

A note of caution regarding any medication.

Stomach Ulcer Treatments and Cures

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on September 30th, 2010

There are two main types of stomach ulcers. A peptic ulcer is found in the stomach wall and a duodenal ulcer is found in the wall of the duodenum, the exit from the stomach into the upper intestine. Ulcers like these have two principal causes. Firstly, infection by a bacteria called Helicobacter Pylori (H. Pylori). The second most common cause is erosion caused by the ingestion of certain drugs, e.g. aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as diclofenac or naproxen, which are taken for arthritis, rheumatism, backache or period pain.

Symptoms of an ulcer include stomach pain, back pain, nausea and vomiting, the presence of blood in vomit, or vomit with the appearance of coffee grounds, dark or black stools, weight loss, irritability and headache. Not all stomach pain is caused by an ulcer, but early diagnosis is of paramount importance in dealing with this ailment. Your doctor will take blood samples, to detect antibodies to H. Pylori, a breath test for a similar outcome, and will also suggest a gastroscopy ( or upper GI endoscopy) where a mini camera is swallowed, under light anaesthetic, to examine you internals, and perhaps a small biopsy from the affected area. This procedure is not as invasive as it sounds, and the patient is able to resume normal life shortly after.

When diagnosis is confirmed, the most important factors are to give up smoking, and restrict consumption of alcohol. You will be prescribed antibiotics, a course of which may consist of, perhaps, clarythromycin, plus metronizadole or amoxicillin. You may also be given a proton pump inhibitor such as zoton (lansoprazol) or ranitidine, which will reduce the amount of acid your stomach produces. These have proved to be most effective in reducing the ulcer, and the symptoms as the stomach has a chance to heal without an excess of acid to deal with. However, there will be restrictions placed on the foodstuffs that you will be able to digest, and these will help over the short term. Many patients report relapses, and a return of the ulcer. The other problem with these medications is that they will interfere with the normal digestive process, and can interfere with other vital body functions when used over the long term. This can lead to other diseases, which the body has a harder time to recover from as we age.

There are alternative therapies which will prevent the return of the ulcer. The big advantage of these is the cost, which is considerably less than the cost of medicines and prescription drugs. Many of these are time-honoured remedies which have been all but forgotten, and some are as a modern as today, with proven sources and medical approval. The next factor is availability, as many of these therapies can be resourced from your supermarket, or health food store, or even found in your own kitchen. A great starter is apple and raw cabbage! Both of these have compounds which are believed to have remarkable restorative effects on the digestive system.

In yet another case of NSAID-related labeling change, all products containing diclofenac sodium are now required to include stronger warnings and precautions about possible liver toxicity. The call for change came after post-marketing reports found that Voltaren, a diclofenac sodium topical gel used for the relief of osteoarthritis-induced pain, could cause serious liver reactions, including liver necrosis, jaundice, hepatitis and liver failure. Some of these reported cases have also resulted in the need for a liver transplant or even death. But the exact number of reported cases of adverse effects associated with Voltaren gel is unknown.

In a letter to health care professionals, the FDA and the manufacturers highlighted the new warnings and precautions which apply to all diclofenac sodium products. They warned that diclofenac sodium, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, may cause liver damage. Symptoms of drug-induced liver abnormalities may appear within the first or second month of therapy, but can also occur at any time during treatment with diclofenac.

To prevent severe liver damage, physicians are recommended to take the following precautions:

  1. Give patients the lowest effective dose of diclofenac for the shortest possible duration.
  2. Closely monitor transaminases in patients who are using diclofenac on a long-term basis.
  3. Inform patients to look out for warning signs of diclofenac side effects, such as nausea, fatigue, lethargy, diarrhea, pruritus, jaundice, right upper quadrant tenderness and flu-Like symptoms.
  4. Exercise caution when prescribing diclofenac with drugs that are known to be potentially hepatotoxic (e.g. antibiotics and anti-epileptics).

Labeling change for NSAIDs and other drugs are not new. In 2005, following the voluntary withdrawal of Vioxx from the market in the previous year, the FDA requested all prescription and over-the-counter NSAIDs to add new warnings and precautions to warn patients about cardiovascular and gastrointestinal bleeding risk.

Vioxx is a type of NSAID known as COX-2 inhibitor that targets a specific enzyme believed to be responsible for causing inflammation in the body. But, this drug has been found to increase the risk of heart attack even at low doses, which led to its downfall. After the withdrawal of Vioxx, Bextra, another COX-inhibitor, was also removed from the market.

The latest warnings for diclofenac sodium add to the long list of potential side effects of NSAID use. NSAIDs have been known for causing gastrointestinal complications like stomach ulcer and bleeding, hypertension, skin reactions, kidney problems, as well as increase the risk of cardiac events such as heart attack and stroke.

But despite the possible side effects, NSAIDs continued to be used widely throughout the world. In the US alone, some 60 million prescriptions are written for NSAIDs per year, and many of them are for elderly patients who are more susceptible to the adverse reactions of NSAIDs.

Medications - What You Need to Know to Stay Well

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on September 29th, 2010

Medications are lifesavers for millions of Americans, providing a “quality of life” unknown before in the history of mankind. Billions of dollars are spent yearly on FDA approved drugs with ingredients generally regarded as safe (GRAS). The down side to this scenario, unfortunately, is these toxic drugs can accumulate at the cellular level showing up years later.

From the lowly aspirin sold over the counter to a $100 per-pill-prescription drug, medications can be dangerous to your health. Addictive as any street drug, they often mask real problems. The human body is a magnificent creation programmed from the beginning of time to re-create itself cell by cell. As the cells become toxic, they lose that God-given ability for perfect regeneration, often producing aberrations programmed for malfunction.

You know the symptoms of cell breakdown. As your 75 trillion cells struggle to put out the energy you need to digest, assimilate and eliminate, you find yourself fighting fatigue, in almost every case the first symptom of body malfunction. If you don’t recognize this symptom, others will follow which will get your attention - or your mate’s. Headaches, shortness of breath, low libido, poor concentration/memory, short temper, heart palpitations and depression are but a few.

“Self-diagnosis” with the help of television commercials sends us to the corner drugstore to “self-medicate.” Sometimes we get enough relief to keep going while our cells quietly begin shutting down. Something is definitely wrong. Fear sets in and we are off again for a more professional diagnosis. Tests confirm our fears - thyroid and/or heart dysfunction, blocked arteries, prostate cancer, diabetes or even worse, “no-known-cause/no-known-cure”.

Then we’re told we need “prescriptions” and “procedures”. But wait. Will drug therapy “heal ” the condition or merely mask the symptoms? Remembering that the body was designed to self-repair, the question is, “will the drugs help the body repair - or hinder it?” Healing is always dependent on the health of the entire body. Healthy cells put out subtle electrical frequencies that work together with the chemical and magnetic aspects of the physiology or body function. Sufficient pure water and real food, as close to nature as possible, provide the material for cellular repair. The body reads the SOEFs (Subtle Organized Energy Field) put out by live and unprocessed foods and uses the frequencies for repair. If you stop to think about it, it makes a great deal of sense.

Another important aspect of maintaining a healthy body is cellular hydration. According to Dr. Batmanghelidj, most disease is caused by inadequate “free” water in the system. Other fluids aside, it is “free” water that is needed for proper organ function. Dr. Batmanghelidj, a medical doctor and author stated, “Because many doctors are not educated about the systems of dehydration and the importance of the fluid in the body, they often misdiagnose organ malfunction… and treat dehydration with medication rather than water.”

Overdose Concerns

When standard medications are used, more often than not, instead of promoting “repair” they are used to circumvent the problem. For instance, the use of synthetic thyroid assumes that if the thyroid is malfunctioning, the meds will provide the body artificially with the thyroxin that it needs. However that can cause some serious toxic side-effects such as abnormal heart rhythms, weight loss, hand tremors, headache, diarrhea, nervousness, menstrual irregularity, inability to sleep, sweating and intolerance to heat to name a few.

On the other hand, the herb kelp is a natural and entirely safe thyroid regulator, providing support for the system. And now the new water-based energy medicine provides subtle cleansing at the cellular level allowing all organs and systems to regain full function through cleansing, sufficient water and time. And it’s all natural- and easy.

Another extremely toxic drug, Coumadin, is often prescribed to artificially thin the blood when garlic or Gotu Kola or Vitamin E with Selenium would work and be harm-free. Again, energy medicine could have the same effect safely and with great ease of use. Coumadin has been involved in more drug interactions than any other drug and the side effects are multiple: bleeding, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, anemia, adverse effects on blood components, hepatitis, jaundice, itching, rash, hair loss, sore throat or mouth and more.

Unfortunately the body is not programmed to read overdoses of man-made toxins as it does overdoses of naturals like herbs, prunes or cherries which are released by vomiting or diarrhea. Drugs accumulate over years of use, your trade-off for feeling good now. Big concerns are attached to what med toxicity is doing to the rest of the body, especially the heart, liver, kidneys and nervous system. Down the road, other drugs often must be prescribed for these other malfunctioning organs. And so it goes.

Because of a growing and very real concern that drugs are harmful, the general public has over the years, spent more on natural remedies and alternative therapies than on allopathic medicine. I think we all will agree that in the past decade, the nation’s health has been spinning out of control with seemingly no way to stop the downward spiral, though it now is recognized as a serious problem.

The latest innovation in the field of natural therapies is electro-medicine, which allows the frequencies of herbs and other naturals to be programmed into non-toxic, water-based formulas. These subtle energy products gently neutralize any negatives that might prevent cells from repairing, rebuilding and regenerating. Problem: cleansed cells are now much more sensitive to toxins, so continuing the same dosages of medications can toxify the body even more quickly. An analogy: a shot of whiskey that is no problem to the alcoholic may take the former alcoholic to the floor.

Let’s go over that once more; after a thorough detoxification program, and if medications are still being used without daily detoxification (RegenerationDaily?), the probability of overdosing is predictable. This situation needs to be discussed with the physician.

Upon completion of deep tissue cleansing and as tests begin to confirm organ/system repair, it is advisable to wean off medications still used for once-malfunctioning organs and systems of the body. Again, be aware that a medical doctor may interpret symptoms of “overdose” as “underdose” and the need for increased dosage, a dangerous situation.

In general the side effects of anything poisonous to the body, including drugs are: nausea, vomiting, fatigue, rash, abnormal heart rhythms, difficulty breathing, itching, dry mouth, achy muscles, and sometimes agitation or confusion- vital sign distress. Often times these symptoms are mistaken for the flu. The “agitation or confusion” are identical to the need for more medications, so it can definitely be confusing to the health care practioner. Eventually the body stores these toxins away in the cells of some organ or system to surface years later as a malady. Recently the FDA made a statement admitting that some of the most widely used painkillers and antipsychotic drugs can cause “adverse events and even death”.

Real health requires a fully-functioning body, which is totally dependent on good nutrition, pure water and sound sleep with plenty of exercise, sunshine and positive thoughts. Medications are a stop-gap measure, the band-aiding of a health challenge and will be so viewed by a knowledgeable physician.

Note: Once the system is cleansed, the socially acceptable drugs, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and sugar will do exactly the same thing as medications, just at a slower rate. Drugs are drugs and even the mildest ones eventually accumulate in the cells - it’s just a matter of time.

Important: Continue all medications throughout any of the AltWaters? cleansing systems. It’s important to discuss with your physician your intention to be weaned off all medications as your system repairs.

Warning

Staying on medications once the cells have been cleansed and repaired can be hazardous to your health due to medication overdosing!

Weaning off medications upon completion of a AltWaters cleanse

1. To safely wean off medication, you must work with a medical person knowledgeable in decreasing medications: M.D., naturopathic physician, doctors of integrative or complementary medicine.

2. Use extra detoxification to neutralize toxic residue until all medications have ceased - usually 3 half-droppers of RegenerationDaily per day in one quart of water to drink over 8 hours or half upon awakening and half at dinner. The electro-sensitive person will need to work with an Energy Intuitive for proper dosage.

3. Note: as the med dose is lowered, if symptoms re-appear, the dose can be bumped up slightly for a time until weaning can be resumed. Ask your doctor about this.

4. Work with an Energy Intuitive who understands your program to discover information (often electric) that may still be having a negative effect on your system.

5. Don’t give up. The body knows how to self-repair. Sometimes it takes just a little extra time.

For symptoms of med overdose check The Pill Book or Physician’s Desk Reference

Case: Medication Overdose

Joe had been for years an insomniac with intermittent suicidal depression. Long after he had finished his cleansing/rebuilding program of energy medicine formulas, he continued his medications for diabetes. Although his doctor recognized the fact that Joe was much better, he never reduced his medications. One year later Joe was back with his original complaints which his physician read as a need for a higher dosage of his medication. The increased medication, negated the cellular repair he had achieved during his 18-week program of deep tissue cleansing.

Case: Re-toxification

A young woman called from Maui a year after she had cleared her asthma, insomnia, mood swings and female problems through a subtle frequency cleansing program. Sick again, she wondered why. She was “drug toxic”! She admitted to having returned to her coffee drinking habit. Anguished over the return of her symptoms she asked, “One cup of coffee a day couldn’t do that, could it?” Yes, coffee is toxic and toxins are cumulative.

Case: Med Toxicity

“I had been diagnosed with high blood pressure by several physicians, and finally, out of fear, I agreed to try some medications (my doctor used major scare tactics). I have not been on any medications since I went on Carol’s program six years ago. After playing the part of a guinea pig for three months, my blood pressure went down to acceptable levels and my doctor was extremely pleased with the results. However, I was experiencing many side effects that were most disturbing. I was very fatigued and I awoke every day feeling drugged. I could not wake up and on several occasions I felt dizzy and lightheaded.” “I contacted Carol and discovered I had major toxicity by medication. I am now off the medications, cleansing and doing much better…90% back to normal already.

Why can energy medicine heal lots of disease that Chinese and western medicine cannot? Energy medicine is not a new science; it goes back to at least Galileo’s time, although it is gaining more and more credibility as time goes by.

Some people don’t believe in energy medicine as they don’t believe that there is any scientific background to it. But there are a lot of things we don’t understand yet that doesn’t mean they don’t work. How do you explain patients being treated with placebos recovering from disease? How were they cured if they only received a sugar pill, and they were not really being treated with conventional medicine? Most probably, even though they were probably not aware of it, it was to do with how they focussed their energy and the power of their mind.

In the same way how do you explain those patients that are told they will never walk again but they do? Or those that modern medicine says can’t have children yet these women go on to have a baby and often more than one. They may have gone to energy healers looking for help or they may have subconsciously tapped into their own energy field.

We are surrounded by energy. We are all energy as is everything around us. Energy medicine is the most natural and efficient healing system as it uses the diagnostic properties of energy. You probably already use a form of energy medicine in your life.

By being based on and using energy in some format, Acupuncture, osteopathy and Reiki all work on this principle. People like receiving energy medicine, you don’t have to do anything or have any procedures and you do not have to take medication. Your energy field restoring it to full strength by an energy healer working on you. You will be recharged and as the days go by, the deep physical, mental or emotional blockages damaging your health will be released. This will help you return to full health very quickly.

The ancient medicines all knew of your energy field and called it Chi, prana and Baraka. You can build up your immune system, boost your stamina and vitality, combat pain and stress as well as sharpening your mind by using energy medicine.

Your body was designed to heal itself and Energy healers work with that knowledge. We believe that we need doctors and modern medicine for every ache and pain we suffer because our culture tells us that. You will have more control over your health, your vitality and your mind the more you work with the energy in your body.

Intuniv is a new medication for the treatment of ADHD in children and teens that just recently gained its approval from the FDA and was available to pharmacies in early November, 2009. Early reports on Intuniv for ADHD are now coming in, as the medication is new to the market and many parents and physicians are curious about the initial feedback.

Intuniv is not a stimulant medication, and may be helpful to the estimated 25-30% of children with ADHD who do not benefit from stimulant medications. Instead, Intuniv is a form of Guanfacine (Tenex) which has been used for years as a blood pressure medication in adults, and has also been used as an adjunct medication in the treatment of ADHD individuals with temper or anger problems, or oppositional defiant disorder. Now in the form of Intuniv, this medication seems to have a wider range of symptoms that benefit from its use than just anger or oppositional behavior.

It appears that Intuniv (guanfacine) works in the pre-frontal cortex to help the brain’s available supply of glutamate, and excitatory neurotransmitter. About one-third of all neurotransmitters in the brain are glutamate, and working together with dopamine and norepinephrine, glutamate helps to improve the functioning of the pre-frontal cortex - improving focus and attention, decreasing impulsive anger and frustration.

Families will find Intuniv easier to manage then Tenex, as it is a once-a-day medication, where Tenex was twice-a-day dosing. Also, Intuniv is not a stimulant, so it will be easier for doctors to prescribe the medication, and easier for families to pick up a refill at the pharmacy. Also, Intuniv has no known potential for abuse or dependence, so it may be helpful for those with both ADHD and a co-morbid history of addiction.

Early reports on Intuniv indicate that the effects and benefits of the medication are not just one day, but actually have benefit for the next morning with the child or teen wakes up, and many families know that the early morning can be one of the most difficult times of the entire day.

While Intuniv can be used along with stimulant medications, for many children and teens it is proving to be good enough all by itself. One doctor reports that he has seen positive results in his patients with “inattentive ADHD” helping them to focus better and longer. Others report that Intuniv may also help with those difficult, angry, ODD, and perhaps early on-set bipolar disordered kids and teens. And for those kids, Intuniv should be much safer than the antipsychotics that are often prescribed.

Obviously it is today very early in the game, and there is a lot that remains to be seen and reported. I’m not sure that I’d want my child to get in too early on this medication. I would rather take some time to see how others do with it, and let it get a bit of a track record. In the studies that Shire had done for FDA approval, there were some significant side-effects reported, and something like 80% of the people who began the study dropped out over the course of the study. The fact that the study was about two years long might explain the drop-out rate, but so might the reported side-effects. But for many families it will be worth watching, listening, and asking questions of their physicians. It should be a good discussion at your local CHADD meetings.

It is strongly recommended by some physicians that Intuniv not be used with certain other drugs, especially Prozac, Paxil, Luvox, Trileptal (or Tegretol), Provigil, and others in these classes. We don’t consider ourselves experts on Intuniv, but here are some websites with more information from people who are:

Male Yeast Infection Treatment

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on September 28th, 2010

Most people attribute yeast infections to women. It is entirely possible, however, for a man to develop one as well.

The male pride often keeps a guy from discussing such an issue.

Admitting to vulnerability is often hard for men. Admitting to an illness that is more common to women is even harder. If you know your man well, you may be able to help him understand his symptoms and allay his fears.

Communication helps keep both partners healthy and happy. Sometimes both the man and the woman need simultaneous treatment to keep the infection from being passed back and forth. If you find it difficult to discuss with your guy, leave an article lying where he can’t miss it.

The male symptoms of yeast infection are the same as in the females. Burning, itching, rash, inflammation, and discharge accompany the overgrowth of yeast.

It can take from a few days to a couple of weeks for the body to be free of the infection. Recovery depends on how severe the infection becomes before treatment begins. It also depends on how well the individual responds to medications.

Finally, it depends on the steps the man takes to prevent a recurrence. Following through the entire treatment is a necessity. Antifungal cream is usually all that’s needed for light cases.

If your guy likes yogurt, it would be a big benefit to have him add it to his diet. The yogurt that contains the live culture is the type that helps combat the infection. Combined with the antifungal creams, it will speed the recovery and help the body build a resistance.

Make sure your man knows yeast infection is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. Yeast is a normal part of our bodies. Sometimes it is just a matter of finishing any medications that may have caused the infection, such as antibiotics. If your guy is able to openly discuss the yeast infection, you should feel blessed in your communication with him. There are very rare occurrences where people are allergic to each other’s bodily fluids.

Maybe there is something in your diet or in his diet that is contributing to the problem.

Good hygiene is important for both the man and the woman. Fresh underwear daily or even more often may be the need should you have a job that creates heavy perspiration, or if you are involved in sporting events or practices that cause you to perspire heavily.

Recovery time depends upon keeping the affected area as dry and clean as possible. Wearing breathable clothing over the area is also a necessity. Even if your man can’t stay dry because of the type of work that he might do, he could at least wear clothing that allows better air flow during the time of recovery from the yeast infection.

A man having a yeast infection is no worse than a man having athlete’s foot, which is just another type of fungal infection. Reassurance that it is a normal infection that many people endure at some point in their life may be helpful for him to know. Feeling odd because of an unusual occurrence often keeps people from admitting they have a problem, especially if it is of a personal nature.

Treatment For Yeast Infections

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on September 28th, 2010

Yeast infections aren’t restricted to one certain area or one kind of person. A person, a lady, a baby, a teenager or an old person can get yeast infections. The infections might be an one off occurrence or they can return time upon time, occasionally perhaps months or years on. The rationale is that yeast is in our bodies all the time and the infections are caused when they procure the capability for unnatural expansion.

So, the capability for an infection is always there.

Some indications of yeast infection are rash, white coating of the mouth or tongue, skin rashes under the boobs or folds of skin in other areas, mouth sores, itching, burning, redness of the infected area, sleepiness, unpleasant pissing, cottage cheese-like discharge, agonizing intercourse, bad temper, depression, and headache.

It may be confused with other diseases, including vulvitis, explaining why.

It’s possible that simple life changes can significantly reduce your bent to get thrush. The way in which you wipe when relieving yourself, tight pants, pantyhose, underclothes that doesn’t absorb moisture, bras that trap moisture, wet bikinis or sports clothing that’s worn too long regularly, and diet can all be contributors to yeast overgrowth that may be overcome.

Learning good cleanliness and placing it into application can make a giant difference in this area as well as your total fitness and health.

What makes it possible for the yeast to activate? You have to prepare the yeast in a container of warm water, let it sit for one or two minutes, and then mix it with other warm ingredients.

You let this mix sit in a warm place for it to rise.

Our bodies have many warm places for the yeast to multiply. They flourish in the heated areas that may hold the moisture. When they multiply, they cause inflammation. It’s customarily nothing to stress about and can be simply corrected. Changing your way of life to enhance your recovery success is one step in the direction of achieving yeast control and combating infection. It’s nada to be embarrassed about, while it can be shaming to confess to others.

Should a baby be ashamed as it gets yeast infection? What about nappy rash? It could be a form of yeast infection.

Babies can get both, yet nobody is abashed to speak of this. But it isn’t a reason to be slovenly about your private cleanliness, only a method to assure you that it isn’t always due to lazy hygiene.

There are many home-made treatments, and over the counter cures that have been successfully used to treat and cure yeast infections.

These cures include changes in diet, drinking a selection of fruit juices, and solutions, all that may be made of ingredients found in your fridge.

One home remedy women have successfully used to treat their yeast infections is white vinegar ( some folks prefer using apple cider vinegar ).

They take a little white vinegar, water down it with water, and use it on the infected area.

The upside is this treatment is cheap. The down side is that while it isn’t dangerous, when applied to the skin, particularly tender or wounded skin, white vinegar stings, this is particularly true if the white vinegar has not been correctly diluted.

If the concept of dousing yourself with white vinegar isn’t your idea of a successful way of treating yourself, you can try showering yourself with tea tree oil.

Fans of this treatment claim that eating one cup of yogurt every day not only helps cure an existing yeast infection but it also helps stop future infections.

Even if eating one cup of yogurt every day doesn’t cure or stop yeast infections it’ll provide your body with calcium and protein. There are a few foods and natural additions that you can eat and take which will help treat and forestall yeast infections.

Avoid eating foods possessing a high quantity of starch, like pasta, potato’s, and breads.

Drinking cranberry juice will help clear out your urinary tract, keep it healthy, and probably help cure an existing yeast infection as well as helping to stop future outbreaks.

If you are not certain that a home cure is the way in which you wish to go about treating your yeast infection there are a few over the counter treatments you may use.

Things that wont cure you, but will cause you to feel better include placing an icepack wrapped up in a towel against the infected area. This may also help with any swelling you could be experiencing.

Another thing which will go along way in causing you to feel better is soaking in a baking soda bath.

Wear loose fitted garments that don’t pull firmly across the groin area. Some girls find that they’re taking an oral contraceptive that’s causing yeast infections.

Girls that suffer from lingering yeast infections might wish to consider refraining from their long, perfumed, bubble baths. If you’ve been treating a vaginal yeast infection for a few days and have not spotted any change, visit your doctor and ensure you are truly dealing with thrush and not something else.

Things You Need to Know About Joint Pain Relief

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on September 28th, 2010

Joint pain can originate from different causes. When the condition is not inflammatory, the term used by medical practitioners is arthralgia while arthritis is the appropriate term when the condition is inflammatory. Although joint pain can be caused by a number of factors, common origins such as osteoarthritis brought about by aging are easier to address. There are many autoimmune factors which can bring about joint pain and usually, these are serious cases which need the proper diagnosis and treatment. These, medical practitioners can provide.

If the joint pain is deemed to be not life threatening and you would like to experience joint pain relief, you can opt for alternative medications which can give you good results ranging from short term to long term effects.

One of the most popular pain relief treatments is probably acupuncture. Before, acupuncture has been ignored by many physicians, but now, there are many studies to prove the efficacy of this oriental treatment. As a result, you can now find doctors in hospitals which are properly trained to perform acupuncture treatment. The reason why acupuncture can help in giving relief to painful joints has something to do with the release of chemical compounds in the body which are induced by the needles used in the therapy. Accordingly, there are certain points in the body which, when targeted, can shut down pain and trick the body into believing that it is not in pain.

Another natural way of alleviating joint pain is through the use of herbal medicines. Some of the herbs used in managing the pain of the joints include licorice, Indian ginseng, ginger, menthol and camphor. If you are familiar with the herb peperomia, it has been used by many Asian households to manage joint pain. The stalks and leaves of this herb are edible. When harvested, clean the herb in running water and you can eat it raw or as a salad.
