The Dangers to Look Out For When Trying to Stop Hand Sweating
Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on April 12th, 2010
Are you looking for a way to stop hand sweating? Are you sometimes tempted to cut your hands off because they are so annoying? Does sweat drip uncontrollably from them like a leaky facet that no plumber can fix. I have been there and done that and I can completely relate with you. I feel your pain, I know what your are going through. At one stage I thought that I would do anything, if I could just have dry palms, just for a day. All of my daily activities were effected by my sweaty palms. I could barely type, hold a pen, touch a piece of paper without soaking it. I left soggy hand prints where ever I went. They were like a trail leading back to me. Not to mention the amount of people that I inflicted sweaty hand shakes and hand holds upon. I could see the look of repulsion in their eyes when they pulled their hands back and looked at me like I was some sort of a criminal.
Sound like your life?
Well anyways in the quest to stop hand sweating, at the time I would have done anything to stop the sweat leaking from my palms, but looking back now, there are a few methods that are less than safe and they have some potentially dangerous side effects. I just want to give you a quick overview of them before you decide what treatment method that you are going to pursue.
Antiperspirants For Your Hands
One of the main ingredients of antiperspirants is Aluminum Chloride. The may be called AlCl on the bottle. AlCl is the chemical symbol for Aluminium Chloride. This chemical has been shown to increase the risk of Alzheimer’s in old age. If you have a family history of Alzheimer’s you should avoid this chemical and it is also advisable to avoid this chemical even if you do not have a family history. So be sure to check the label of you antiperspirant and to be aware of the chemicals that you are exposing yourself to.
Prescription Medications
It is possible for your doctor to prescribe a medication to you that will stop hand sweating. More often than not, this medication has not been designed specifically to stop hand sweating, rather this is a side effect of its primary function. This in itself is possibly dangerous as there is no way to accurately predict how your body is going to react to the medication. Also, your body sweats for a reason and this is an important reason. Your body sweats to maintain a healthy temperature in your body. Prescriptions to stop hand sweating will often stop your whole body from sweating, so you have to be careful as to not let your body overheat as this has the potential to be fatal. If your body gets too hot tissue and muscles begin to degenerate and if the progresses, death may be imminent.
Surgery To Stop Hand Sweating
A common side effect of surgery to stop hand sweating is that a secondary location begins to sweat excessively. This means that your hands stop sweating but your head or your backside can start producing excess sweat to make up for the loss of sweat production in your hands. This means that the problem is not solved, it is just transferred. Nerve damage is also possible with this method.
