Learn To Recognize The Important Signs Of Infertility
Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on April 10th, 2010
Infertility continues to be a problem for millions of women, not only in the US but throughout the world. In fact even more women are affected by it but their cases are not recorded; they are not yet aware of this condition until they want to get pregnant. But it is not only the women who have this condition of infertility; even men are affected of this. There are different signs of infertility and one person will experience clues that others are not experiencing.
Most of the time, the only time that the couple would notice the infertility condition is when, after a long time of trying to get pregnant, they still fail. If this is the case, there may not be physical signs of infertility that the couple would be able to recognize early on. Normally, the doctor would recommend the couple to keep on trying for 1 to 2 years before diagnosis and treatment is applied.
Signs and symptoms of infertility:
For women:
1. Irregular menstrual cycle - Many women who have irregular menstrual cycle are affected by infertility, but this irregularity is not necessarily related to infertility in all cases. If you want a confirmation, let the physician check it before jumping into conclusion.
2. Pain in the pelvic region - Some women suffer from pain in this area which is possibly a sign of PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. This is an endocrine disorder that affects women in all races and nationalities.
3. Hormone problems - Hair may be appearing unusually in some parts of the body. This is caused by the hormonal problems that lead to infertility. Another effect of hormone problem is the trend towards excessive weight, or obesity, and being underweight. Being underweight would mean a woman has less nutrition in the body, and thereby causing fertility failure. On the other hand, being overweight could also prevent ovulation and conception. If you are planning a pregnancy, always consider weight issues. Consult your doctor to know what your correct weight is to make the pregnancy successful.
4. Abusive intake of vicious substances - having unhealthy vices is a big hindrance to successful and complete pregnancy. Drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking can greatly affect the ovary. If pregnancy is your primary goal, avoid doing these vices.
For Men
1. Low sperm count - Many men who have consulted their doctor for infertility issues usually find out that they have low sperm count. Some causes of this are the exposure to extreme heat like taking a hot spa for a bath or wearing tight underwear and jeans. So if you are planning to contribute to your wife’s pregnancy, jumping in to a hot bath should be avoided for a while. Your doctor may have other recommendations, so don’t hesitate to ask.
2. Hormone problems - Similar to women, men also have some hormonal problems that affect fertilization, like weight problems. Too much weight could be related to issues that can reduce the sperm count or health.
3. Vices - As much as these alcoholic drinks, cigarettes, drug abuse and other vices can block pregnancy for women, these can also make the sperm count lower for men.
Final Observations
These signs and symptoms may not automatically mean you are having infertility problems. But if you observed you are experiencing these signs, consult your doctor. It could be infertility, or worst it could be other serious problems that may need immediate medical attention. Infertility can be treated successfully in many cases. Oftentimes the best cure is patience and persistence if there are no physical problems to be overcome.
