Information on Finger Oximeter Usage
Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on April 06th, 2010
It is amazing to see how technology works its way around people’s lives and the manner in which technological advancements are rapidly being introduced into the market. A finger oximeter is the latest addition to medical inventions and is used for measuring the amount of oxygen in a patient’s blood, and is usually placed on the tip of the finger. Quite portable, this device uses electrical batteries. It is a perfect example of the break from traditional methods of blood testing where samples had to be taken. The oximeter is also used for measuring changes in blood volume on people’s skins, thus helping medics keep track of their patient’s conditions even when there are considerable amounts of distance between the two.
Placement of a finger oxygen monitor on one’s finger will work positively into ensuring the most accurate of results. The device will in all cases give their users two readings, one that happens to be the rate of oxygen being carried by the red blood cells and the next one being the pulse rate. The device is mainly worn on the middle or index fingers of either hand as they are said to produce the most accurate of readings. The fit is supposed to be checked to ensure that it is neither too loose nor vice versa. The gadgets outline should cover the top of the nail. A time lapse of between thirty to ninety seconds should be observed before taking readings, but this varies from a person to the other because of their health. They are supposed to be cleaned with alcohol or disinfected wipes. The area of placement should also be regularly checked.
