In this country we are lucky enough to have free medical care via the National Health Service; obviously some people choose to go private as they may have preferences about their healthcare. A part of the service no matter what you choose is being able to get medicine in the form of prescriptions to treat any short term or long term illnesses. Typically you will have to contact your doctor who is likely to be your local GP for an appointment and at your appointment they will ask questions and do some tests to decide on the best course of action.

Your doctor will then explain what they believe your condition is, what they are going to prescribe you and how often you should take the medicine. They will then typically say that if the problem hasn’t been solved by the time you run out of the prescription then you’ll likely need to come back and the doctor can decide whether you need another prescription.

A lot of elderly or immobile people who are too ill or weak to go out to the doctors repeatedly may find that this repetitious process could be tiring or impractical for their situation, especially conditions such as flu or any other illness or medication that demands bed rest or not operating a car in the case of some drowsy medications.

Fortunately there are some pharmacies that are able to take care of your prescription without you having to go all the way to your doctors to get them refilled. There are local pharmacies which are more likely to be a short walk round your corner than a trip into town to the doctor’s surgery. This is a welcome service to many who find it a struggle to get to their doctor’s surgery and has helped many people greatly.

Another service some local pharmacies do is home delivery of prescription medications. This tends to be done for those that are bed bound or are unable to leave their homes, these vulnerable people may have some of the more serious conditions and so it’s important that they are looked after, home delivery of prescriptions is one of the most convenient and helpful ways to make sure that people that need prescriptions and are unable to leave their homes get the medication they desperately need.
