Things to Avoid While Taking Alcoholism Prevention Medicine
Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on October 15th, 2009
First of all, do not drink alcohol while on antabuse treatment. Symptoms like low blood pressure, fast heartbeat, nausea, flushing, chest pain, thirst, and vertigo may occur when alcohol is imbibed during antabuse therapy.
You should not take antabuse for at least 12 hours after drinking alcohol. Note that reactions still may occur from drinking alcohol for several weeks after you have ceased antabuse treatment.
Be careful of the alcohol content of other common produce such as cough and cold medicines and food products. Alcohol in these products can also come in contact with antabuse and cause a reaction.
Inform your doctor that you are taking antabuse pills before taking any antibiotics or before having a surgery.
Do not come in tactile contact or breathe the fumes of products that may contain alcohol. Things like paint thinners, lacquers, solvents, stains and others might trigger a reaction with antabuse. Be mindful when applying or using any other products that may contain alcohol content, including colognes, perfumes, antiseptics, aftershaves, mouthwashes, etc. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions regarding alcohol content in a certain product.
Before taking Antabuse pills, tell your doctor if you are on any of the following drugs:
- Isoniazid (or Nydrazid)
- MAOI (Monoamine oxidase inhibitors) like isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate) or phenelzine (Nardil)
- Benzodiazepines like diazepam (Valium), chlordiazepoxide (Librium), temazepam (Restoril), alprazolam (Xanax), triazolam (Halcion), clorazepate (Tranxene), etc.
- Tricyclic antidepressants like nortriptyline (Pamelor), amitriptyline (Elavil), doxepin (Sinequan), imipramine (Tofranil), etc.
- Also, you should avoid the following medicines: warfarin (Coumadin), theophylline (Theo-Dur), phenytoin (Dilantin), lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith and others), metronidazole (Flagyl)
Other drugs might also interact with antabuse. Discuss it with your doctor and pharmacist before taking prescribed drugs or other medicines such as vitamins, minerals, and herbal products.
Salvia Divinorum - Medicine Or Poison?
Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on October 15th, 2009
As 2012 is approaching so is all the doomsday talk. Doomsday Cult followers claim the government is trying to ban salvia divinorum to prevent people from “seeing.” They go on saying that this is a direct violation of their religious right.
Researchers, herbalists, mental health specialists, and especially addicts are showing interest in a Mexican sacramental herb that contains an anti-addictive pain killer that can even get people off other addicting substances. Salvia Divinorum references show how the herb can address alcohol, cocaine, opiate heroin and morphine, nicotine, tobacco and amphetamine addiction.
Salvinorin A is the first known naturally-occurring non-nitrogenous full kappa-opioid receptor agonist, and it is the only diterpenoid compound known to have activity at this important receptor. This has recently opened up vast new areas for research in diterpenoid pharmacology and it represents a potential molecular target for the development of herbs to treat disorders characterized by alterations in perception, including schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease and bipolar disorder.
At the same time some States are trying to ban Salvia. Most are failing in their attempts due to the lack of support from the voters.
Researchers are looking into medicinal uses for Using Salvia Divinorum in treating a variety of medical and psychological problems to include:
Depression
Drug Addictions
Stress
Insomnia
Digestion
Alzheimer’s
AIDS
Chronic Pain
Schizophrenia
Cancer
And many others
The medicinal future is promising for Salvia Divinorum and those who are suffering as long as government lets the scientific researchers do their job. So far the Federal government has not shown any interest in criminalizing the plant.
Urinary Tract - A Place Where the Bacterium E-coli Creates Menace
Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on October 15th, 2009
The world today is one that sees many wonderful advancements having been made in the field of medical science. Therefore, medicines have been devised for many diseases. This has led to many earlier fatal diseases now having become mere problems facing a swift and an accurate extinction by extremely effective medicines.
The bacterium E-coli is present in the lower intestine of human beings. Here it is quite harmless; however, the problem arises when it finds its way into the urinary bladder. The reason being that the bladder is extremely vulnerable to the bacterium that has been mentioned in this paragraph.
The urinary tract is the pathway for the bacterium right up to the urinary bladder. Moreover, the kidneys coupled with the ureters are also vulnerable to the harmful effects of this bacterium. Hence, a urinary tract infection is liable to take place not only in the urinary bladder alone but worse case situations also entail the kidney being infected with this bacterium.
Being informed is perhaps, the most logical endeavour that one can undertake in order to ward off a myriad of diseases and infections. This is a proven fact with the possibility of prevention becoming a highly visible aspect when a person is well informed about infections.
The quantity of the information has been given the feature of vastness with many websites that deal in the information providing act, now being in place. Therefore, prevention is now vested with an enhanced aspect of reality due to these websites. Infections are, therefore, now no longer a problem with ample information about the ways of tackling them, now being present.
The process of treatment differs with the type of the medicine that is used. The normal medicines that are being used fall in the field of antibiotics. However, the treatment process that is followed by medicines belonging to this type involves the process of ‘Mass Extermination’ which involves complete annihilation of each and every bacterium residing in the bladder. The treatment of the urinary tract infection with this method is effective; however, it leads to benefits losing their presence.
However, there is a special category of medicines coming into place now which involves the process of selectively targeting the bacterium E-coli and leaving all other forms of bacteria untouched.
