Motion Sickness Medication - What Are the Drawbacks?
Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on August 15th, 2009
Motion sickness medication - drawbacks. There are quite a few - it can cause drowsiness and along with the sickness, it can make you feel worse. It is often not suitable for pregnant women and young children.
Most motion sickness medication needs to be taken in advance - 30 minutes prior to travelling. Another drawback is that the medication can take too long to take effect. For the above reasons more and more people are looking for a natural remedy.
The indication that sickness is about to start is being irritable, yawning and experiencing a cold sweat. As time goes on and the motion sickness develops drowsiness, exhaustion and the stomach starts to feel upset. Then comes the confirmation of vomiting and nausea.
There are a few little things that you can do to help the sickness but these are not going to tackle the problem for you entirely.
- Whenever possible stop for a break. If travelling by car, get out the car and have a walk around and get some fresh air. This will break off the motion sickness and get some air. Any sort of odour can make the sickness worse.
- If at all possible lay down for a while, closing your eyes. This could help the body re-setting itself.
- A cold flannel can relieve the sickness slightly.
- Focus on the horizon. Don’t look at the window at on-going traffic or the scenery zooming by.
- Do not read as it can make you feel much worse.
