Liposuction Techniques: Safer Techniques

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on July 11th, 2009

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that sculpts and smoothes the body by removing excess fatty deposits that create uneven contours. Unlike popular belief, it is not a weight loss method but more of a body shaping tool. It is used on a variety of areas of the body, including the thighs, neck, arms, and midsection.

If you’re considering undergoing this procedure, there are a variety of techniques used by plastic surgeons. In the past, a hollow tube called a cannula was inserted into the target area. It broke up the fat while sucking it out into a high-powered vacuum device.

This particular method resulted in excessive blood loss and tissue damage. Today, it is no longer one size fits all procedure. New technologies and methods such as ultrasonic liposuction, have made this plastic surgery much safer and effective than it used to be.

1. Wet and Super-Wet

The main difference between these techniques and the original method is the addition of fluids before fat removal. Saline solution and Lidocaine, an anesthetic, are injected into the body to help loosen the cells and ease fat removal. The difference between the two is that the super-wet has an equal ratio of liquid injected as fat will be removed.

2. Tumescent Liposuction

This is one of the most commonly performed methods of fat removal. Similar to the wet technique, fluids are injected into the body only in a greater amount and with the addition of epinephrine, which constricts blood vessels. The excess of fluids helps loosen the cells. This is often considered more effective than the wet methods.

3. Ultrasonic Liposuction

This method is rapidly gaining popularity among plastic surgeons. Ultrasound waves break up fat by shaking it apart and heating it, converting it to liquid for easier removal. The cells are then removed by cannula, just as with the other methods. By liquefying the fat, the ultrasonic method is able to target much difficult areas that are more resistant to liposuction.

4. Micro Liposuction

While many liposuction procedures are performed on larger areas, some people desire fat to be removed from the face and neck area. Since these areas are small and need to be carefully sculpted, different cannulas are used as are multiple miniature incisions. The small size of the tubes allows surgeons to delicately break apart and remove the fat cells, creating the smoothest appearance possible.

5. Power-Assisted Liposuction

This method is similar to traditional liposuction as it uses the same cannula to remove fat; however, during this procedure the cannula uses highly specialized linear-reciprocating suction. The cannula creates rapid vibrations that assist in breaking apart fat for easier removal.

As with any plastic surgery, there are risks involved with each technique. For example, the tumescent method carries the risk of Lidocaine toxicity, while the ultrasonic liposuction can cause burns from the excessive heat. Since the methods vary greatly, you should be aware all possible dangers. Consult with a qualified plastic surgeon on which would work best for your aesthetic goals and health background.

While women bask in the glory of having nice huge breasts, it is definitely embarrassing for men to have huge breasts. The features that make a woman so attractive aren’t true when it comes in case of the men.

Nature just isn’t fair, but it’s a fact-men boobs are embarrassing. They make you feel fat, make you the butt of jokes, and keep you from removing your shirt at the pool. And sometimes they are the main thing standing between you and the firm, muscle-toned body you want.

There are a few simple solutions-diet and exercise. Add some walking to your routine, watch for fatty acids in food, join a gym and do go regularly. Do all these things and you may see some improvement. But those of us who have suffered from man boobs know that it’s not so easy to get rid of them through traditional means. Especially as you work your way up in the years, those boobs just seem to hang around forever.

You can also try pills. Many claim to be natural, but whether natural or not, most get you nowhere. The solution is “mammaplasty” male breast reduction, or “man boob removal”.

Big Male Boobs Are No Joke

We can all have a laugh about it, but actually, gynecomastia is a real medical condition. It means that the breasts are enlarged unnaturally. It can strike men of any age right from teenagers to seniors. In some cases the severity is extreme. And, it’s not just a matter of too many potato chips and cheeseburgers or lot of couch time. It is because it’s a flab that is tough to get rid of.

How does the Male Breast Reduction Works

The procedure is simple. The doctor removes tissue either by making an incision to remove and adjust tissue, or by liposuction. In many cases, it is most effective to use a combination of both. Sometimes it is best to remove some fat, readjust the tissue under the breasts, and then suck out some of the fat that remains in order to allow the natural shape of the muscles to come through.

After the tissue is removed, the nipple is readjusted slightly to a more natural position. The incisions can then be sutured to give you a flatter and firmer look. It takes only a few hours, but the recovery period takes a few weeks. The most important thing following your surgery is to make sure that the incisions heal correctly. The doctor will prescribe some medicines.

Once the incisions heal, you can get back to your daily routine, however, this time sans the man boobs. Most men who get mammaplasty done are happy with the results. This is because it gives you a renewed confidence and can be considered as an essential step for getting the perfect body you’ve always wanted. Don’t be a slave to your man boobs! Leave the boobs to the ladies. Get them removed and you’ll be glad you did it.

Are you unhappy with the shape of your ears? If yes, then the good news is that you can change them. Many individuals choose to get otoplasty to change the shape of their ears. Here are some guidelines you need to follow before taking up the treatment.

Many individuals want to change the shape of their ears. It is very essential to choose the right doctor as far as this procedure is concerned. Normally, the individual will decide to meet several doctors before zeroing down on one. During this period, the doctor will explain the procedure in detail. This is the time to ask plenty of questions as well.

The doctor will then schedule a time for the surgery. The surgery will most likely be completed in an outpatient facility, a doctor’s office or a surgical center. Occasionally the doctor will require the patient to stay in an inpatient procedure and the parent will usually stay with the doctor.

Usually for younger students, the surgeon will normally choose general anesthesia so that they will not wake up during the operation. For older children, the doctor may opt for local anesthesia which mean the child will be awake but not uncomfortable. The surgery should take two or three hours however if there are complications, it may take longer.

Usually, the surgeon will make an incision to expose the cartilage of the ear. He will then change the cartilage so that it lays closer to the head. The surgeon may ever remove some pieces of cartilage to make the ears look more natural. He or she may attach non removable stitches to help restore the shape.

It usually takes a few hours to regain your consciousness and the doctors may want the patient to stay overnight, to know the effects of the procedure after the anesthesia effect fades. The doctors will wrap the head of the patient with a bandage for proper healing.

The child may feel some discomfort around the ears but sometimes medication will help relieve the pain. A few days later, the doctor may place some lighter bandages around the head. The patient should follow the doctor’s instructions, especially when it comes to changing the dressings and sleeping at night. The stitches are usually removed within a week.

The child should make sure not to manipulate with the ear for few weeks after the surgery. This means that children may have to be careful during recess and playground activity. Children can usually go back to school within a week of the surgery and adults can resume work within five days.

Those who undergo the surgery must realize that with all surgery, there is a chance that there may be a scar, which can look worse than the original situation. As long as you understand all the risks and side effects, you will not be surprised during the surgery. If you want to change the shape of you and your child’s ears, then you may want to consider otoplasty. The surgery can have great results if performed correctly.
