If you suffer from awkward pouches of flabbage or a spare tire that just won’t quite, liposuction may be the answer. Liposuction is a plastic surgery operation that removes subcutaneous fat from targeted areas, leaving you a new, skinny you.

Are You A Good Candidate For Liposuction?

The first step to getting rid of the flab is to decide if you are a good candidate. Fat removal surgery isn’t just a quick and easy diet plan. This operation works on the areas that dieting and exercise just won’t get rid of.

Many of us try our best dieting and working out, only to find that little bits of our previous chubby selves remain here and there. No matter how you work it, you still end up with these leftovers. If this sounds like you, you are the perfect candidate for liposuction.

Some folks find that they have flab in weird areas like their necks, arms, ankles, calves and thighs. This gives the body an awkward shape all over, and it is unsightly. The biggest target area for liposuction is the belly. Fat accumulates easily around the abdomen as you get older, but doesn’t come off so easily. Fat removal surgery is the perfect way to contour your body.

The Key to Making Your Surgery Effective

You go in, get some anesthesia, the doctor pokes around, and finally… You’re a new you! Now, life gets back to normal. Actually, there are lots of cases where people put the weight back on, and end up going back repeatedly. This costs money and is a major headache. Why not get the most out of your liposuction the first time?

It could take up to several months to recovery fully. Your doctor will give you special garments to wear, which will help the healing process. If these garments aren’t fitted just right, you may have trouble with the incisions healing correctly, and it will mean more doctor visits.

For the first few days, there will be drainage tubes. During recovery, the pain isn’t bad, but there is often some bruising and swelling which can be uncomfortable. After a couple of weeks, the incision scars harden. All of this is natural, so be patient until your body gets back into shape.

Your plastic surgeon will advise you on what to do, and the key is to follow their advice. Get your body healing right, and your liposuction will be a success.

Another important thing is to eat well and get exercise. At first, you will have to take it easy, and your doctor may ask you to not move around much. But, you’ll want to transition into a healthy lifestyle so that you can take care of your new body. Liposuction doesn’t mean that you can eat anything you want now! Not unless you want to flab to make a comeback.

Liposuction isn’t a quick and easy diet plan, but it is a wonderful way to contour your body. Plastic surgery offers you a great way to get the body you want. Let liposuction fight the flab and make you proud of your body again.

Mile High Warnings of Counterfeit Drugs

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on June 16th, 2009

It’s happening all the time. Nearly every day, there are new reports of counterfeit drugs flooding the world’s prescription drug market. Just last week, the Partnership for Safe Medicines posted a link about how counterfeit drugs are hastening drug-resistant strains of malaria. And the week before, we shared the news reports out of the United Kingdom about a raid on an Irish counterfeit drug distribution operation and the MHRA’s recall due to possible counterfeit inhalers found in the U.K. supply system.

There is documented proof that counterfeit drugs are a global problem that affects consumers right here in the United States. My colleague Marv Shepherd spoke about this very topic last month with 21st Century Healthcare Forum, a program that airs on Northwest and American Airlines.

Dr. Shepherd reiterates that if you are going to purchase a medication online, it should only be purchased through an online pharmacy that bears a seal from the Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (VIPPS), a program of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy that presents pharmacies with a accreditation only when they have complied with the licensing and inspection requirements of their state and each state to which they dispense pharmaceuticals.

The Partnership for Safe Medicines warns against the dangers of importing drugs from countries, such as Mexico, that do not enforce the same stringent regulatory procedures amongst their pharmacies as in countries such as the United States.

Counterfeit drugs are a serious patient safety problem. The Partnership for Safe Medicines is working together to protect the safety of your prescription drugs. The Partnership for Safe Medicines is a group of organizations and individuals that have policies, procedures, or programs to protect consumers from counterfeit or contraband medicines.

Chiropractic Care: What You Need to Know

Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine on June 16th, 2009

While you may have heard of chiropractic treatment, you may not be familiar with the practice itself or the benefits of receiving chiropractic care. Doctors of Chiropractic, D.C.s, are specially trained in this alternative type of therapy which involves spinal manipulations commonly referred to as “adjustments.”

This treatment is based on the concept that our bodies have self-healing properties that originate from the spine which controls all of our bodily functions and movements. Adjusting the spine allows the various systems of the body to function properly, alleviating common problems such as back pain and headaches.

An initial consultation with a chiropractor can help you determine if treatment is appropriate based upon your medical history or previous injuries as well as any current medical conditions. During the initial appointment, the D.C. will obtain these details and perform a spinal examination and basic physical exam.

If the results of these exams indicate that treatment would be beneficial, the doctor will then set up a treatment plan consisting of regular spinal manipulation and may also include other treatments such as therapeutic exercise, nutritional or diet counseling, and electrical stimulation.

The core element of chiropractic treatment, spinal adjustment, involves application of sudden pressure or force to various points along the spine. This allows joints that have been affected by improper posture, regular strenuous movement, or injury to be restored to their normal mobility which then allows healing of the tissues and an improved range of motion of the joints.

Side effects of chiropractic care are minimal and typically temporary but may include headache and soreness or discomfort of the treated areas. Most patients seek chiropractic treatment for back pain, especially in the lower back, it is also an acceptable form of treatment for neck pain, headaches, and leg pain associated with sciatica. Patients range in age from infancy to the geriatric years.

Treatment may be needed once a week or several times a week and the frequency will usually lessen as the plan progresses. Depending upon the spine’s condition, your individual treatment plan could be as short as a few months or as long as several years.

While D.C.s are required to obtain their degree after 4 years of education and training from a college accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE), it is important to inform both the D.C. and your regular physician of any treatments, medications or supplements provided by the other. Before choosing a practitioner, be sure to ask about his or her training and accreditation.

Ongoing research is being conducted to determine the benefits of chiropractic care but the advantages and benefits have long been established. Once considered as something akin to “snake oil treatment”, it is now being covered by many insurance companies and HMOs as well as Medicare, some state Medicaid programs, and state workers compensation programs.

Before scheduling treatment, check with your own insurance provider to be sure the services will be covered. As with any form of alternative medicine and therapy, it’s important to consider the advantages and expense of treatment to decide if chiropractic care is the right choice for you.
