Oral Health and Dental Care
Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine, Sleep Disorder on May 08th, 2009
Dental care is integral part of general health, and good oral health gives the sense of overall well-being. Tooth decay is the most common health problem in many countries, and it shows the poor emphasis on the dental care by the general public. Unbalanced diet, poor brushing habits and negligence to daily oral care leads to various dental problems calling for dental treatments, which can be time consuming, expensive, painful and complex. Most of the dental problems can be avoided by paying attention to the daily oral hygiene.
Important Dental Care Tips
It is advisable to use the soft bristled brush with synthetic rounded bristles. When buying a brush, look for the seal of approval from American Dental Association. The toothbrush must be replaced every 2-3 months, or when the bristles are bent or worn. For good dental care, replace your toothbrush after you have suffered from cold.
Proper brushing technique is important for dental care, and brush outside, inside and inside surface of lower and upper jaws. Brush your tongue to freshen up your breath as bacteria and debris on the tongue cause bad breath.
The ideal dental care involves brushing the teeth at least once everyday, preferably at bed time. Brushing after the breakfast helps in thorough removal of plague daily. To clean each tooth properly, change the position of the brush after few strokes. Good dental care does not require too much of paste, and pea-sized fluoridated toothpaste is sufficient. It is essential to avoid brushing teeth too vigorously as it can wear down the tooth structure. It can also cause the gums to recede, exposing the root surface.
For good dental care, good flossing techniques must be used. But, many people do not enjoy flossing, as they are not aware of the proper technique, and hence hurt the soft tissues of the mouth during the attempt. A safe and effective alternative to flossing includes use of brush picks, floss picks, tooth picks and special plague removers.
Some dental specialists and dentists advise using the plague removers instead of regular flossing for dental care. The picks can reach the nooks of the mouth that are left unavailable for floss and toothbrush. Toothpicks are great for dental care, but they are not able to reach all the desired places such as behind the last wisdom tooth.
For good dental care, you can also make the toothpaste at home by mixing baking soda, salt, glycerin and peppermint. But, never swallow the toothpaste, as it may cause the fluoride toxicity. Brush mildly for 2-3 minutes as brushing vigorously for longer time does more harm than good.
Many studies have indicated a strong correlation between oral health and general health. Not paying attention to the dental care can lead to many health problems such as osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes, respiratory disease and pregnancy problems. The bacteria causing the periodontal infection can enter the blood stream carrying the infection to many major body organs, leading to various health problems. Consider a periodontal evaluation if you have diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease, respiratory disease or if planning to conceive a baby.
As a good dental care program, smoking must be avoided as it can cause tooth discoloration, bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease. Some of the other ill-effects of smoking include mouth bores, hairy tongue, shifting teeth, delayed wound healing, altered sense of smell and taste and jaw bone loss.
For good dental care, mouthwashes such as Chorohexidine or Listernine have effective antiseptic properties that kill the bacterial plague. It is also important to maintain a well-balanced diet, and minimize the consumption of sugary and starchy foods that are known to cause tooth decay. To maintain proper dental care, avoid eating between meals as it makes teeth more prone to decay.
It also helps to visit your dentist once in 3-4 months so that any oral concern can be diagnosed early. There are no symptoms associated with most of oral health problems till the disease has progressed to the advanced stage.
A Potential Problem of Epic Proportions

Our modern world is being threatened by an invisible enemy which will conquer using the art of deception. As bizarre as it seems, this enemy is promoted as our friend, healer and helper yet the havoc being caused by this enemy may be beyond our comprehension. The name of this enemy reveals its true nature and when broken down the name reveals the words, ‘against life’. So, what is the name this enemy goes by? ‘Antibiotics’ is the name and it takes many forms, all of which are contributing to a world wide proliferation of destructive super bugs that have been created by the very drugs that were created to destroy the diseases they targeted.
How Bad Is It?
The following quote was taken from an article in the Nov. 98 issue of Discover magazine in an article titled, “Last Days Of The Wonder Drug” and I’m sure that ten years later, the stats are worse. “More than 50 million pounds of these antibiotics are produced annually in the United States. Some 40 percent of that total is given to animals, mostly to promote growth rather than treat disease. Antibiotic use is also rampant in agriculture–for example, the drugs are sprayed onto fruit trees to control bacterial infections. Another little-recognized application is in antibacterial household cleaning products, soaps, toothpaste, and even plastic toys and cutting boards, which incorporate bacteria-killing substances too potent to be used in the body. The upshot of this massive exposure is the increasingly familiar predicament the world now faces: disease-causing super bugs that resist the drugs that once thwarted them. We are experiencing an alarming resurgence of common but no longer curable infections from super bugs that developed their resistance in our antibiotic-filled bodies, in animals, in fields, even on our antibacterial-soaked kitchen counters.”
Sterilized Creation
Another sobering consideration is the fact that one billion tons of antibiotic laced animal waste is being generated yearly with these antibiotics going into the environment thus creating even more resistant stains of bacteria. Add to this number, human ingested antibiotics which continue to do their destructive work even after they leave our bodies passing into our water supplies as well as back into the soil. Additionally, millions of farm acres world wide have been sterilized and are continuing to be sterilized by industrial farming practices using synthetic fertilizers. The consequences are such that beneficial flora within the human and earthly terrain are no longer flourishing, opening yet one more facet through which disease and destruction will prey upon the human race and our environment.
Wrong Belief System
So, how is it that life on this planet has come to such predicament as this? When considering the big picture, we can blame our situation on the philosophical foundation of modernity. Modernity grew out of the age of enlightenment which was nurtured in the soils of Western civilization. But if this so, what was wrong with Western civilization that could cultivate such disastrous consequences? I believe the answer lies within the world of religious belief. Religion takes various forms around the world and within each culture both ancient and modern, we find religious beliefs permeating every aspect of culture and governing every facet of how a community, tribe or nation functions. I believe that the Eastern world and thus Eastern philosophy and religion (specifically Eastern Orthodoxy) which were the preserved by Eastern peoples, were in turn, corrupted by Western peoples, thus opening the way for the destructive aspects of modernity which we are experiencing today.
Conflictive Views
Rather than digging deeper on this thought, I would like to leave it and jump ahead to the conflict we moderns are experiencing between what I will define as synthetic materialism and natural materialism. Having supposedly evolved to a higher form of thought, we moderns have embraced ‘man’ himself, as being the creator, savior and ruler of the creation. Religion for the most part has been relegated to the realms of the spiritual, immaterial world having no influence on the material aspects of life, thus creating a huge “God void” which as a vacuum had to be filled by something and that something was man’s intellect and ability to achieve. Thus, what we are observing in the world around us today is an all encompassing phenomena of creating a synthetic material world which is consequently supplanting the natural material world.
Synthetic World
So what’s wrong with a synthetic material world? For starters, it is a denial of faith in a Creator and His ability to create that which is good, beneficial and enlightening for mankind. Consequently, because we are no longer relying upon a Creator, Provider and Helper; as a civilization, we find the need to create our own provisions and means by which to benefit our selves and our fellow man. So, instead of acknowledging our Creator, Father and God, we now ignore Him and continue on the path of creating our own world which mimics the natural world order but does not give life, sustenance and good health.
Delusional Thinking
Thus, we are experiencing the proliferation of so-called medicines which we accurately call ‘antibiotics’. The term ‘antibiotic’ itself reveals the utter ignorance of mankind and our inability to extract ourselves from the consequences of calling good, evil and evil, good. Apparently this principle is so deeply ingrained into the darkened and deluded human psyche that even though we take them to promote life, we name them according to their true definition and purpose which is ‘against life’. Nevertheless, we continue to flood the human and earthly terrain with these products in a state of delusional thinking and schizophrenic behavior.
Abiding Hope
Yet, in saying all of this, it is not too late to turn back to natural materialism as the means by which to obtain our life, our health and our sustenance. The earth is forgiving, revealing the nature of God and though the hour is late, it is not too late to turn back to the ways of the ancients, to the ways of East and to once again embrace nature, the good earth and all that grows upon it naturally as being for our benefit as God had ordained in the beginning.
Removing Warts With Duct Tape is Free and Easy
Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine, Sleep Disorder on May 08th, 2009
Duct tape is one of the most useful items to be found in your home. In the old days baling wire was the fixall of choice but since twine has replaced wire for hay bales it is no longer available for repairs. It used to be said that you could fix anything with baling wire and chewing gum but nowadays duct tape has replaced both items. Very few days go by that I don’t use duct tape for some sort of repair.
Think of all the ways you’ve used duct tape in your life and then add this one to the list. Most doctors probably learned how to remove warts when they were studying medicine but I bet none of them were taught how to remove warts with duct tape.
There are a number of ways to remove warts and range in price from less than ten dollars for a wart removal kit to over a hundred dollars to have them surgically removed. Although most warts are harmless and usually non-cancerous many people want to remove them for appearances sake.
Using duct tape to remove a wart can be considered as a home remedy as you do it at home with a product generally found at home. If you don’t have any at home you can buy a lifetime supply for wart removing for just a few dollars as you only use a couple of inches of tape at a time.
Even though the over the counter wart removers are relatively inexpensive, there is no reason to pay extra for something that works just as good. I’ve talked to people who have tried the over the counter products and got various opinions, which ranged from not working to very painful. Under normal conditions duct tape will not cause any pain.
There are many home remedies for removing warts such as vinegar, pineapple, lemon, aspirin and the list goes on. Most of these are kind of messy or you have to mix them into a paste. Some of them can cause discomfort or a reaction. I’ve never heard of anyone having any type of reaction to duct tape and usually the only discomfort is if you try to rip it off instead of soaking it or removing it slowly.
While understanding the benefits of using duct tape is important, it’s probably more important to know how to use it as a wart remover. Removing warts with duct tape is very simple. Just cut off a piece of tape to cover the wart. Leave it on for 6 days. It’s best to not remove the tape during this time, which means keeping it dry when you bathe. Cover it with plastic or anything that’s waterproof. After 6 days remove the tape and soak the area in warm water. While soaking the area get a pumice stone or something similar to scrape the area. Many times the wart disappears right away but other times you may need to repeat the process until the wart disappears
Even though this is an easy and safe process many people are still skeptical about it working. I have removed warts and know a number of other people it has worked for. By the same token I know of some, who said it didn’t work for them. They may not have been patient enough or maybe they were one of the people it doesn’t work for. As you know very few things have a 100% success rate.
I’ve heard that it is considered so effective that some healthcare professionals have advised their patients to try it instead of surgery or an over the counter cure to remove their warts. The only scientific evidence I’ve seen was in an article written by John O’neil in October 15, 2002 and displayed on The New York Times Health website.
The use of duct tape was investigated by Dr. Dean R. Focht III and colleagues at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash. In the study that was published in The Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, Dr. Focht found that warts disappeared for 85 percent — 22 of 26 children and young adults treated with duct tape — compared with 60 percent of a similar group treated by freezing he wart.
He recommended the same basic treatment as I explained earlier, which was put the tape on for 6 days then remove and rasp the wart with an emery board or pumice stone. He didn’t mention soaking but that works better in some cases.
Dr. Focht said he believed the tape worked in the same way that most other wart treatments work — by irritating the skin, thereby stimulating an immune system response that wiped out the viral infection that had caused the wart. This coincides with what I’ve heard about why the duct tape works.
Despite the testimonial proof from many people that duct tape will remove warts some are still uncomfortable with the thought of trying this treatment. They may have visible warts and don’t want to walk around with duct tape showing. I’m a guy so it didn’t bother me like it probably would a young lady, especially it she lived or worked in a highly visible environment. My advice is to do it when on vacation or maybe you can decorate it so it doesn’t look like duct tape.
Some people don’t think it will work and just won’t try it. Others have heard horror stories about removing skin along with the tape. Soaking the tape will cure this problem. I know that using duct tape to cure warts works so I urge you to try it. It’s not painful, it doesn’t cost very much and it’s easy to do. Even if it doesn’t work, it won’t hurt you and it’s practically free.
If you are worried about trying it, urge someone else to do it and see what kind of results they get. This is a sneaky way to find out, but you might be helping them as well as your self. Be assured it won’t hurt them and you can even furnish them with the tape so that it’s free for them to try it.
