ADHD - New Medication - How Effective is It?
Posted by sleepyguy in Prescription Sleep Medicine, Sleep Disorder on April 20th, 2009
For years, the first line of defense for many children with ADHD is the use of stimulant drugs such as Ritalin or Dexedrine. However, because of the growing concern of addiction and abuse of this type of medication, many are seeking other methods of treating their child’s ADHD. Fortunately, experts have been doing their work over the years. ADHD new medication was introduced to the market.
Vyvanse is the new word related to ADHD medication. This is a dextroamphetamine drug linked to the production of amino acids in our body.
Many are probably familiar with amphetamine as this is the ingredient common in most psychostimulant medication. You might be wondering why there is a need to introduce another potent drug medication when many are already saying no to it.
Apparently, most experts are growing more and more concerned of the possible addiction to psychostimulant medications. This is why they came up with a more subtle and less addictive way of treating ADHD-the use of Vyvanse.
Doctors claim that although this is also a drug, the risk for addiction or substance abuse is lesser. They also claim that it will protect the body from overdose. The support to this claim is still weak.
There is still a chance, no matter how experts try to sugar coat it, of possible addiction. The only difference between Vyvanse and other stimulant drugs in the market is that its potency is lesser.
This still does not change the fact that there is still room for addiction and over dosage. It still leaves room for doubts and uncertainties. It is not easy to reconcile with the idea of giving your child drugs daily.
Despite this newfound medication, the growing need for natural and drug free treatments is still there. And until there is no cure to this disorder, this need will not be completely appeased.
It is a point of beatitude that there are also a number of effective and natural remedies out there that work just as well in reducing ADHD symptoms. Homeopathic remedies are one of them.
Homeopathic remedies take a holistic approach in treating ADHD. It does not just work on ADHD in general but it takes into consideration the individual needs of every ADHD child.
Homeopathic remedies reduce hyperactivity, calm nerves, promote good disposition and improve the over all health conditions. This is made possible by the use of natural ingredients such as Arsen Iod, Hyoscyamus and Tuberculinum. It is safe for children to use this kind of treatment everyday because it is natural and will not give them side effects.
Imagine taking a non-addictive remedy that will take the edge of your child’s hyperactivity. It may sound farfetched to doctors but with the use homeopathic remedies and pair it with a good and balanced nutrition, you will achieve optimal results.
ADHD new medication should be scrutinized and tested before declaring it as the panacea we are all looking for. However, until new medications are proven to be really safe and effective for children, it is better to take the safer route to recovery.
